Basically I have two options: One...buy a better AGP video card for this one computer that has a single core, 3.0 ghz processor with 4gb ram (32-bit os on it right now) or two... upgrade a computer that uses pci-e and upgrade the ram (that has a 6800 ultra oc and 1gb ram). I was looking at a radeon x3650 agp or a radeon x1950 agp for the agp system, but i do not know whether the single core processor would bottleneck the graphics card all together, which would mean i would need a new motherboard, enw processor, and etc. Or with option #2, is to buy more ram and possibly a better video card for the pci-e system (which has a dual-core 3.0 ghz proc). I would like to play games such as cod4, cod world at war, and possibly l4d at reasonable/good quality. Thanks.

My story was very similar to yours. I had an old AGP motherboard that I had just upgraded to 3 gig of DDR ram. I thought an upgrade of memory would solve all my problems. I know how silly that was now. I knew I needed a video card upgrade but honestly I do not think AGP is the way to go for new and newer games. The fix I came up with was to find a motherboard that had pci-e slots and took DDR ram. While my mobo is conservatively several generations old it has served me well. I was able to keep my ram and upgrade the video card to something that would run everything I throw at it. Granted I could have bought newer and better ram but I could not justify throwing away the money I spent on the recent ram upgrade. For today and tomorrow's game it is my opinion that pci-e is the way to go.

I agree with Razor. Go with PCI-E for sure since you will not be able to find the old style for much longer.

AGP cards tend to be more expensive since there are fewer of them and they also don't perform as well as PCI-E ones do. Just do the good upgrade to unleash your whole system and prevent bottlenecking.

Save up until you have enough cash to do it right. Otherwise you will always have one or two components that are bottlenecks. The old AGP p4 (?) ddr system served you well. Time to move on.

Ok, thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it. I am now seeing myself how much of a waste it would be to upgrade the AGP system. It is a P4 3.0ghz so I can still use it for whatever...but I see why it would be much better to save up for the upgrading of the pci-e system, and do it right. Thanks again.
