I am thinking about building my own computer. I want this computer to at least last 5 years or so (but can never tell with technology changes and whatnot). Basically I want a computer that I do not have to update for a while. I have a good idea of the other parts, except for the processor. How does a core 2 duo 3.0ghz proc compare to a core 2 quad proc, say 2.5ghz? To my knowledge, today's games only utilize 2 cores? but in looking ahead, would a quad core serve me better in the long run and be worth the price? Thanks

It was my understanding that quad core was overkill. I may be wrong but I would sink my money into a good core 2 duo and never look back.

You should look at getting the Core 2 Quad Q6600..Its only a 2.4 but its very easy to overclock. It's just under 200 bucks but its worth every penny.

Computers don't last 5 years. Not at least if you want to continue playing games and whatnot. Best bet, buy quad core and and fast one. Don't overclock or the cpu will literally burn out before 5 years. -Lemons- wrote:You should look at getting the Core 2 Quad Q6600..Its only a 2.4 but its very easy to overclock. You cannot use hertz to compare processors with different numbers of cores.
