My roomate has a nice computer, but he got the shaft from a 70GB hard drive that came with the computer. For christmas I have been looking for a good internal hard drive to get him, and with this weekend being black friday, I was wondering if anyone has seen and good HDs on sale. My cap is $80 and I want it to be a quality HD for running games, so quality over quanity preffered.

I would suggest that you look for a hdd that is either made by seagate, hitachi or western digital. I would not trust any other brand. I recently bought a 1 TB hitachi hdd for $90, but thats way more space than I will ever need.

A few suggestions:

Those are 7200 rpm, and to buy a hdd that is 10k rpm costs about 300-400$ for starters. I also do not know if a 250gb hdd or what is sufficient for your friend. Good luck finding something.

I'd recommend getting a Western Digital. You won't be getting a 10,000 rpm Velociraptor drive for 90 bucks, but there's a few 250 gig products in that price range that are pretty much guaranteed to be reliable and as fast as you'll ever need.

Ill be at work for a while, and its not the kinda place where I can just hop on a computer and shop. Any links are appreciated.

Also, is it worth gettin 10k RPM for gaming over 7200?

Personally, I wouldnt spend 400 or some odd dollars on a hard drive. I think the 7200 rpm is good enough for any game. What is more used by a game is the ram, not the hdd.

The 1TB hdd that I bought is now $10 cheaper ..

If you do go with that one, make sure it is compatible with your friends motherboard and turn in that rebate.

big hard drives are so overrated.. in the future all the media you'll ever need is on somebody else's server.

But seriously just go to newegg and find the best deal. You can't really go wrong with an hdd.. I've never heard of somebody's gameplay being dramatically affected by their hdd.

I second this. I bought a 20GB mp3 player back when I had 8GB of music. Figured I'd never fill it. Now I have over 70GB of music.

I bought a 250GB hard drive after I filled out a 145GB. Figured I'd never fill it. Now I'm in the market for a terabyte myself. If you have internet and can use it better than the average sixteen-year-old girl, it will fill.

nsfw link.

But yeah. Western Digital is the awesome shit.
