Product Type: Notebook
Product Model: Asus C90S
My notebook has been working fantastically for a long time, but when I tried to boot it up this morning the screen stayed black as the blue power button and the other buttons came on. I have no updated any drivers and have not updated any programs for at least several weeks. I tried holding Fn and pressing F7 at the same time but the screen stayed black. I opened the case up and case up and reseated the hard drive and memory modules, and even reset the on-board battery to flash the BIOS. I have tried running the notebook without the battery and just on battery. Nothing has worked and the notebook is still having the same behavior. I have never dropped or damaged the notebook, and this has never happened before today. I don't have to do a "hold for 5 seconds" restart to turn the laptop off, but I do have to press the power button a single time.
I've researched the problem and nothing seems to have come up besides trying to update the driver (which I can't do given the problem) and getting a slew of new parts including motherboard/HDD/display (which I can't afford). This isn't exactly my idea of a great Christmas present, so if anyone could help fix my problem I will shower you with treats and goodies. And Merry Christmas. Notebooks usually come with an external VGA jack to plug into an external video monitor/projector. The options are to have the notebook screen up, notebook and external VGA up, or just the external VGA up and no notebook screen. I would suggest you try plugging in an external monitor to the back of the notebook. If you see any activity, then you've activated this option. You can toggle by holding the Fn button and some button on your number key area that has a picture of light and dark screens, usually in blue ink, or it will say something like FNS, or some other three letter combo. If it is your screen, you can always use an external monitor to see what your computer is doing by activating the feature. You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." 1. Like I said in my post, I already tried the LCD button option. 2. I already tried hooking up the laptop to a CRT monitor but nothing happened. The monitor just stayed in standby mode like the display never had a chance to get started. I also noticed that the last sound the thing makes is like a clicking sound as if you were clicking on an internet link. This is after it makes the sound to kick up the hard drive. Well it looks like the company is going to refuse to fix anything that happened to my computer, as they defraud and lie to their customers. They have roughly 470 complaints on the BBB of California and they always have ways of cheating customers out of their warranty. I filed a complaint with the BBB, as their so-called 24/7 support is never available and their "Live Chat" never has anyone there. I'm looking for the computer to get fixed even if I have to pay for it, but this is just fucked up. Hmm. What company is this? And is your comp still under warranty? Clicking? Coming from the speakers or somewhere off of the hardware? You should be more like Cantrip. I called the Tech support at Asus and they were extremely helpful and very caring as to what I needed to do. He said to call customer service on Monday and then find out what to do for an RMA for the motherboard, which sounds more and more like there is a short in the motherboard since whatever I do, I get the same response from the computer. We will see what happens after I ship it off to Asus and get the diagnosis from seasoned professionals. @ Cantrip: The company is Cyberpower Inc. in California. The clicking noise does not come from the speakers, it sounds like it comes from the upper portion of the laptop, where the processor is located. well that would be a good idea, but regardless of the graphics card, the on-board graphics would still work and the computer would still make it to post. the computer would even start up, i just wouldn't be able to see anything going on. There is most likely a short in the motherboard circuits somewhere and that is exactly why I am going to fire the thing off to Asus and hope their diagnostic is conclusive and that they can fix the motherboard or replace it.
