Just like the title says: I need a new mouse. Perhaps specifically designed for gaming. My main issue is that my hand starts to cramp during games. I'm just using the mouse that my PC came with, and I think its small size is causing the cramping.

*Insert typical "Maybe you should lay off the hand jobs" joke here*  See? Now there's no reason for any of you to go there :P

Anywho, to the point: is there a specific brand of mouse anyone recommends? I would prefer wireless, but a mouse with an extra long cable would do just as well (I'm paranoid about a mouse quitting on me mid-game). I'd be willing to spend up to $100 or so, anything higher than that seems kind of silly.

Bonus points to anyone who can recommend a matching keyboard too!

Thanks guys!

I have a Logitech G5 wired (gaming) mouse. I could not be any happier with it. It has on-the-fly sensitivity changes and extra buttons on the mouse that you can use to bind different keys to. The mouse cord has a fabric material coating it, so the cord doesnt get all tangled up. Just install the software that comes with it and it works like a charm.

It also depends on how you use your mouse. If you use more of your whole hand while using a mouse, the G5 will be perfect. If you control the mouse with mainly your fingertips and not rest your palm on the mouse, then a Razr deathadder (or whatever they are called) will be more suited for you.

Logitech also has a series of keyboards (and gaming keyboards) that look slick.

I'll second the G5. Also, you don't have to install the software if you don't want to, it works fine either way.  There is a wireless version, the G9 IIRC (Might be the G7, I forget)

Personally, Razer mice have never been comfortable for me.

I own a Razer DeathAdder and love it to bloody bits. I didn't fully realize what I had in my hand until I started playing Sniper on TF2. It's sexy, it's comfortable, and it's freaking legend. I spent a good ten minutes petting it once I opened the box. It just feels good.

Do you play with a claw or palm?

As an aside, wireless gaming mice are two things:

1) Hokey
2) Expensive

I have tried using wireless gaming mice, only to return them a week later. After being on wired gaming mice, you really feel the lag on a wireless. Nothing will give the speed, the precision, or the responsiveness of a high-quality wired mouse.

So yeah. Razer DeathAdder gets my vote, especially if you play with a claw.

It also depends a bit on what kinds of games you play.

I'm currently using the Microsoft SideWinder gaming mouse, and I've found it to be great.  Not too many buttons, but the ones it has are solid, hard to mis-hit, and pretty easy to map to different functions for different games.  Multiple adjustable sensitivity levels (though I've never really used that much), and a built-in "Quick Turn" function to do a single-button 180 and look behind you.  Amazon carries it for $35.

I've also been playing a fair amount of World of Warcraft again lately, so I've been interested in the forthcoming MMO Gaming Mouse from SteelSeries.  I hear it's pretty tailored to WoW, though it should support other games in some fashion.  It's also a bit expensive at like $100, but it has 15 programmable buttons, customizable light colors, and looks pretty neat IMO.

from what I hear wireless mice tend not to be good for gaming since there is tiny amount of lag time but I would recommend the logitech mx518

it's cheap and very reliable

Wow, thank you so much for all of the help guys!

A wired mouse is definitely the way to go, it seems. Better response (like you guys said) and I won't be paranoid about my mouse dying on me.

I checked out Razer and I loved the 'Mouse Guide' on their website. It suggested the Razer Lachesis for my specific needs, so I think that's the one I'll be going with.

Thank you again, guys. Ya'll always have great advice!

Ya, anything Razor.

I have a Razor Diamondback that I've been playing on since the HL2DM days.  I want a second for my work - I know, it would be a waste, but it just feels so good.  Since I spend more time at work than i do gaming, I thought I at least should get one that is comfortable.  However, i can't justify a gaming mouse for my thin client workstation to the accounting people. Prudes.

You will be very happy with the Razor.
You should be more like Cantrip.
