...Whatever a doornail is. They're out of date. And thus NOT showing up on the master server list.

Current version of TF2 is v1.0.4.4 Protocol 14.
Tempest servers are running v1.0.4.3 Protocol 14.

Because the Protocol is the same you can still connect and play and see it on your favorites, but because the main version is out of date it won't show on the master server list.

So you know, 1.0.4.4 has been out since about December 15th, which is around the time that things died. Whose job is it to keep them up to date? I know when I used to run the HAX HL2DM/TF2 servers a suspicious lack of players would prompt me to check that it was indeed showing on the main server list, and then correct whatever was necessary. Now that HAX doesn't have a server and I'm just a low-level admin here, I don't check that kind of stuff any more... except for tonight since it was bugging me that I was having to go to Q to find players. I missed playing with friends who knew what the hell they were doing.

Good job sunfox. I noticed that they showed up only on my favorites and friends, but had no clue why.

I seem to recall the last time I tried to help someone at PDS update via the web control panel, that it did not work at all. It would update the offline installation and claim it was now up-to-date, but those new files were NOT copied over to the live installation. The issue was confirmed by inspecting the files via FTP (and FYI FTP wouldn't let them upload DLL or EXE files so it couldn't be updated that way either). At that time the servers remained out-of-date until WDF did it manually... I'd guess probably through an RDP session direct to the server.

The fact remains that they're all still running an old version of TF2 and aren't showing up on the master server list. Until they're updated, they'll remain empty. The only way anyone will even know they exist is if it's in their favorite or history lists, or if a friend connects it'll show up on the friends server list.

In fact... http://www.wdfnews.com/forums.aspx?g=posts&t=10047

(I really hate being the only one around to notice something wrong, know exactly how to fix it, but not being able to do anything about it...)

I think you're just going through point-loss-withdrawl. We're here to help you with this challenging disease.

Hmm, I sent WDF a PM, and he's been posting since I sent it, but no reply and they're still out of date. Also #6 is messed up and showing as a generic Arena server.

OK, well I guess I should be taking my cues from those who are supposed to care, and stop caring already. Fine... see you all on [-Q-]!

sunfox, you need to chill out some. whut has been extremely busy lately. and don't take it personally if he doesn't reply to your PM, he usually doesn't reply to them. it's the holidays, servers will be back up when things are less hectic. just calm down, it's a game.

Ack! Savage slicing and dicing of servers!

I still think there would be room for a dedicated Dustbowl or Goldrush server. Those two maps always did well on Tempest - at least when they were dedicated. For some reason the payload rotation server did not do well.

Any problems were usually the result of someone locking the door with a teleport.

We may bring those two back eventually. I need to see where my finances are next year.

On an up note - we had a good time last night.  I think it was TripleBeam whoe sent out the call.  Thanks!  We filled the server we were on.

I have had some time off recently and couldn't find a game for the past few days until last night.  I'll keep checking in the evenings (Pacific time).  I'm hoping it was just because of the holidays and that things will pick back up.

Spamming the entire friends list will do that.

It reminded me of the grand old times we had, when our servers would be pumping at maximum awesome. It made my heart smile.
