Quite a bit, what you need to know. I install for my friends Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:I wish I had some vicodin, it's been a long time. I remember the first time I took some vicodin for fun, it was like my whole body was a dick and god was blowing me.

Suhweet! Ok, basically here's what's up. A few weeks ago my passenger door mid started crackling like it was blown or something. Chunking away. It got worse and worse and finally it gave out. I figured I had blown it. No big deal. However, soon after when I'd turn the volume up past 25 the amp would seemingly short. The subs, being on a different amp, would continue on, but the inside of the car would completely cut out or come back for a second and go again. I took the door panel off to disconnect said speaker that I assumed was causing the issue. I noticed that the crossover for the tweeter looked fine, but the crossover for the mid had all this white shit in it. I disconnected the speaker and everything worked fine again. Yesterday the driver door mid started doing the same thing. The system is now having the same issue as before. Shorting and whatnot. I'm wondering what teh fux is going on. Is it an amp issue?

I'm no expert but if this were happening to me I would first look for a faulty ground wire. On the farm when a trailer has a bad ground youll often see "white shit" and intermittent working lights.

Groud wires is almost always the cause for speakers going out, but first check NOTHING else is making a false-ground (other peices of metal touching any wires, ect...) then check your amps, and cords leading to the connectors. Or just swing by any Car Audio store, ask the guys how much it would cost to put better insulated wires, Most of the time I see in people's car sterio's is cords meant for In-Home speaker wire.

It could be a couple things. First, as someone already stated, a bad ground can cause crazy shit to happen and is most likely your problem. I would check the ground from your amp to the chassis to make sure it is solid. If you are running multiple amps you will likely have 1 main ground with all your other amps feeding off it via a block. Are you running a cap (capacitor)? If you are, it could cause some issues as well. Lastly, when you took your door panel off, was there any condensation in the panel? As crazy as it may sound, check the routing of your speaker wires. If one of your wires is in an area where it could receive pressure (like a door jam), it could have a tear in the insulation and be hitting the metal on the vehicle - this will cause a short. I will try to think of what other things it could be. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:I wish I had some vicodin, it's been a long time. You should check out your ground wire.

No capacitor. No squish zones. Not really sure where my ground leads to. I tried to follow it but they embedded it pretty good. I did notice today that my HPFs were all set to weird shit. Essentially the Front and rear speakers HPF were both set to through. I noticed that when I turned on the HPFs the distortion went away in both the tweeters and the rears. Can listen to shit way louder and cleaner now. I think I may have simply blown both door mids because of the filter settings. Thoughts? Also, I noticed that the bass boost for the front channels on the sub got kicked up a bit (no idea how). Might have contributed.

Yeah, I've got a meter. I'll check it tomorrow. I think it was the lows though. Still doesn't explain the corrosion on one of the coils in the crossover.
