AZ has filed a resolution for sovereignty...basically telling the federal gov't to piss off and only exercise the powers that were granted to them in the Constitution. check it -- http://www.azleg.gov/For...eg/1r/bills/hcr2024p.htmQuote: A concurrent RESOLUTION
claiming sovereignty under the tenth amendment to the constitution of the united states over certain powers, serving notice to the federal government to cease and desist certain mandates and providing that certain federal legislation be prohibited or repealed.
Apparently they are 1 of 8 states currently filing similar resolutions. Others include NH, MO, OK, MT, MI, HI, WA A good day for libertarians? thoughts? comments? Come on these boards are deeeead. You wanna take this to Fuck Town? Oh gadzooks, yes!

Explain this process more. Is it "sovereignty" as in "I'm a separate country now"? Taht's what the word makes it sound like. silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... I have 10 younger siblings and I am only 20....

I wasn't aware of the proposals before this, and it's good to see from a philosophical standpoint. But... it really doesn't mean a thing. It's not like the listed states are declaring independent sovereignty or anything. They're simply saying "We follow the US Constitution. Federal government, you should too." To which the federal government would reply (if it felt the need to reply, which it wouldn't), "Yep, we do too. Glad we're all in agreement." It's like so many U.N. resolutions that condemn actions they don't like, but don't actually do anything about them. EDIT in response to HolyJaw: The bill states that the Arizona is sovereign to the United States under the U.S. Constitution, and the 10th Amendment states that all powers not specifically granted to the federal government in Washington, D.C., are automatically given to the states. The bill is just emphasizing the relationship, and to some extent implying that the federal government has been overreaching. But it doesn't specifically say things the federal government has done wrong, just that it needs to stop any policies or procedures that are "are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers." Actually not at all! The U.S. Treasury is in charge of printing U.S. currency, largely at the direction of the President and Secretary of the Treasury. States have no power whatsoever to generate new dollars, they can only get it through taxing or receiving it from on high. Hence why many state governments are in crisis mode over their mounting debts that they can't pay, versus the federal government that thinks $9.8 TRILLION is just a good place to start. NH doesn't mess around Quote:
That any Act by the Congress of the United States, Executive Order of the President of the United States of America or Judicial Order by the Judicatories of the United States of America which assumes a power not delegated to the government of United States of America by the Constitution for the United States of America and which serves to diminish the liberty of the any of the several States or their citizens shall constitute a nullification of the Constitution for the United States of America by the government of the United States of America. Acts which would cause such a nullification include, but are not limited to:
I. Establishing martial law or a state of emergency within one of the States comprising the United States of America without the consent of the legislature of that State.
II. Requiring involuntary servitude, or governmental service other than a draft during a declared war, or pursuant to, or as an alternative to, incarceration after due process of law.
III. Requiring involuntary servitude or governmental service of persons under the age of 18 other than pursuant to, or as an alternative to, incarceration after due process of law.

V. Any act regarding religion; further limitations on freedom of political speech; or further limitations on freedom of the press.
VI. Further infringements on the right to keep and bear arms including prohibitions of type or quantity of arms or ammunition; and
That should any such act of Congress become law or Executive Order or Judicial Order be put into force, all powers previously delegated to the United States of America by the Constitution for the United States shall revert to the several States individually. Any future government of the United States of America shall require ratification of three quarters of the States seeking to form a government of the United States of America and shall not be binding upon any State not seeking to form such a government; and
