OK i have decided to go with evga 790i ftw motherboard, either a evga 260 or 280 have not decided n that yet, and im going to upgrade my ram as well to ddr 3 and im thinking 4-6 gigs of ram, i know if i go with 6 ill have to get vista im still decieding on that as well, but i need to know what good timings are for ddr3, i have ddr2 crucial ballistix and i like how they run and was thinking of getting a ddr3 set as well. So i just need to know if this is a good set to get or bad or is there a better set out there?. And i will be useing my current bsel modded cpu as well. WDF?: I found a hot girl WDF?: Who lets me WDF?: Drink WDF?: Smoke WDF?: And play video games WDF?: ALL DAY shignog: and in the back door? so no one knows? my ddr2 gamming ram is 4.4.4, is there some that low for drr3 or do they have a different ones? I have seen 8's and maybe 7's. I dunno what technical reason is behind it exactly. Because of the higher clock frequency of the modules it makes up for the loss in CAS timings. I could do the math on the access time of the higher frequency vs lower cas timing of your 800 mhz ram...but im lazy.  Though that still wouldnt explain why they dont have high clock frequencies AND lower cas timing....im not an engineer so I dunno. Perhaps they are just not doing so later they can make SUPAH EXTREME OVERCLOCKER RAM. and charge you twice as much.

Typical timings for performance ddr3 are 7-7-7-18 at 1600 MHz or 8-8-8-21 at 1800 7-7-7-18 @1800 and 7-8-7-21 at the top notch stick these days. Keep in mind though, you will never see a difference between 7-7-7-24 @ 1333 and 7-8-7-21 @ 2000 in gaming or any other real use. For the most part the only time they are worth it is for competitive benchmarking. Finally, buy 4GB not 6. 6 will come in a kit of 3 sticks which will cause you to run in single channel on a 790i where 4 GB wil be only 2 sticks and will run in dual channel. Finally all 3 stick kits are intended and only rated to run their speeds on X58/Nehalem boards and require some tweaking to use on 790i/X48/X38/P45/P35.
