So I was playing Dawn of War II yesterday and it froze for the first time... I had to reset my computer because nothing was repsonding (first time ever with the quad core) when I restart there is nothing. No start up beep. Nothing. No signal is even sent to my monitor. Initial thought is it has to be either Motherboard or Processor or both. Anyone have any advice for me before I start spending cash? Anyway to tell if it is one or the other without just swapping the processor. Or could this be something else entirely?

Like I said there is no POST, no beeps, not even a signal to the monitor, so that rules out Video card, HD, RAM, and Power Supply (I would imagine)

Any information would be useful. Thanks a ton.

I was just in your shoes good sir. It was the power supply for me. The hardcore restarts and crashes during my gaming was caused by my video cards expiring. Swapped the power supply, and beefed up my video cards as well as some additional ram, and she's back to working order.

But since it woun't boot at all I say take a look at your PSU first.

does it power up at all? I'm betting it's either the PSU or the motherboard

Its a christmas mircale!

after trying it for 2 days with nothing. I tried it today and it boots up like nothing ever happened...

Which just adds all kinds of questions for me... but what the hell... no harm no foul...

When I would try to boot up the fans would start to turn and what not but nothing was happening... maybe my PS is starting to fail... I'll keep an eye on it
thanks for the help anyhow guys

Some motherboards automatically default back to factory settings after several no-posts or boot failures. If you have dynamic OC'ing motherboard (like Asus Nos, or something) it can occassionally mess up the FSB enough that you will lock up and then not post. It has happened to me before (although i was manually tinkering with the frequencies and it was running fine until i ran it hard in a game) I experienced the same problem as you and it freaked me out...but after I tried rebooting and removing the power to the system several times it finally came back to life.

IF you are using software to OC your board dynamically it might just happen once a year or something, that might be the problem you experienced.

Try a quick test of turning on and off a few times. When my PC died I managed to boot it up one last time before fatality took place and never booted at all.

If you computer seems to be booting up on a regular basis, or you have power, but your comp just doesn't post, it could be your ram. I've had this happen and thought for the longest time it was my video card. Run a pass with memtest86+ to make sure. Only thing it will cost you is some time.
