There's a power company called Luminant coming by our campus thursday looking for co-op students. Right now I'm having trouble creating a resume, I really dont have a lot of work experience seeing as how my first and only job was with fast food, but I have worked with a lot of the equipment that they use out in the field. Do any of you know a good website that provides a how to or a really good template to follow?

Some tips:

-Keep it one page
-Do not use Microsoft templates
-Use consistent formatting
-Highlight skills that make you stand out, and bullet the responsibilities or experience you have using the skills
-Don't use first-person references (I, we, us, etc.)
-Leave references off. They used to be included, but now the trend is to hand them by request.
-Include a cover letter. A cover letter is a good way to inform them about the contents of the resume and things they should be looking for (namely, that you have a lot of exprience with the equipment they use).
-PM me later on tonight, and I'll give you a copy of my resume if you want to steal the formatting.

Bike has it right, although I would add that in the past few years it has become acceptable to have a two page resume. The problem you would run into is once over two pages the HR people just don't care enough to keep reading. Good luck with the campus visit.

Microsoft Word has quite a few basic resume templates - I use those to teach my students how to create resumes.

There are a few places online that you can pay to have one made.

Universities also have career services that will help you with your resumes and cover letters.

Go to your universities career website/center. They have alot of information/examples. Most of them offer resume review for free to get pointers. When I was graduating, I did this.

One thing to note is that you can include School projects or teams that used the equipment you mentioned along with real paid work experience. One of my first resume's included a project I completed in college on stock valuation for a few companies. It allowed me to demonstrate that I had knowledge of various software and tools, as well as analytical skills needed to perform in thier company.

Crawdad is right, a two page resume is completely acceptable for a professional resume. That said, you only want to use two pages if you have good, relevent experience to warrant it...
I don't think there is any way I could fit my current professional resume on one page without making the formatting necessary to do it a bigger negative than the 2 pages.
