Ok, so not literally. However, there is this program that was put out by my motherboard manufacturer that is screaming at me that my CPU is too hot. And that is at 70 degrees centigrade which is too hot. This occurs under load with a stock cooling system. I went into my bios and the idle temp was 60 C.....

What is going on here? Can anyone help me solve this before I lose my computer to spontaneous combustion?

Have an E8400 running at 3.0 Ghz. Case also has a 12 inch fan in the side, moves more air than my house fan.....Heat sink for the fan is not really hot...

You already know the answer to this. Either just get it done and buy an aftermarket heatsink and install. Or dick around and first remove you old heatsink, clean it up, apply fresh thermal paste and maybe it will help. You should be idling around 40-45 cent with a stock cooler. With my coolermaster v8 I idle at around 30-34

You were right in a way.... Right after I posted this I took the thing apart and made a big dusty mess. I found out that one corner of the heat sink had actually come off, how this happened I do not know; maybe when I moved. Anyways I put it all back together nice and neat and voila now I idle at 30 - 40 (supposedly) and under a load (Fallout 3) I might hit 50. Stock cooling. O well at least it is not screaming at me any more.

I stopped reading at stock heat sink. If you have a marginally decent gaming rig you need an after-market heat sink. Shit you can get a decent one for under 30 bucks and you'll notice the difference immediately. Also keep a bottle of compressed air around at all times.

Thats true if you are using intel since the stock LGA 775 is pretty small, but if you are using a stock AMD cooler you are already set. The thing is huge with 4 heat pipes and more copper fins than you can count. Check out the review it got, it leveled out at 40C during a torture test, and got a 10/10.

LOL @ dust.

I have a yet-finished project to take 10 old machines and load a Linux educational OS.

I spent like an hour outside my garage with the air compressor blowing clean all of them. They actually sparkle without all that dust.

Here's a link to a program review on Lifehacker if you want to monitor your junk. Windows only program. Real Temp.

You should be more like Cantrip.
