We had a thread before that led to Crass being attacked for whatever he said about Nazism and etc. Nonetheless, this is not that type of thread. I wanted to share some of the medals that my grandfather had brought home from WW2. My grandfather (who has since passed away), was the bravest man I have ever had the chance to meet. He earned three bronze stars while fighting in Normandy and throughout Europe. His heroism, as well as all American WW2 vets (and all War veterans in general) should always be revered as a blessing. The following medals that my grandfather brought home in no way overshadow what American soldiers did in WW2, neither is it a showcasing of Nazism. The story goes that his platoon was able to raid a German museum (as well as the dead German bodies) for whatever they wanted to take. I will hyperlink the pictures since they are relatively large. (You can zoom in pretty far by clicking on the picture after it loads FYI). The first one is of a Nazi helmet emblem. Here. This would have been worn on the front of German helmets. The following is a Nazi Pin. I assume this would have been pinned on a shirt or the uniform. The next set is a series of three medals. Click here. The red and black ribboned ones are Iron crosses (I think) from WW1. The one in the middle is a Nazi medal from 1939 (I do not know the exact name of it). These next strings of medals most likely came from the museum. This one dates back to WW1. This next set of medals date back to 1852 and 1870. 1852 is marked on the back of one medal so you can't see it. Regretfully, I do not have much information about these medals. What I do know is that they may be valued upwards of $3000. At this time, my family has no intentions of selling them, since, in my opinion, there's nothing else like these. Hopefully these were as interesting to you as they were for me.

Your grandfather looted the corpses of Nazis and stole artifacts from German museums? That is hardcore. My dad has a set of short swords he took off the first Vietcong he killed. It's creepy as fuck. Not as creepy as Nazi medals though. As you may recall, my suggestion to Crass was that he donate his Gestapo ring to a Holocaust museum on the condition that they mount it in a urinal so that visitors can piss on it. I think the same applies to your grandfathers loot. The only people who are going to pay for them are neo-Nazi types, putting them on display in your home is the sort of thing that could make guests very uncomfortable, so why not put them to good use? I think what Dick means is "I do not find these to be of interest. I find them offensive and am uncomfortable with their presence on these forums. Hear me roar." Safety + Peace

it was actually my ring he was talking about. my family was sent a ring and a letter (in german) saying that a close relative to us had passed away and he fought in WWII on the german side and he got a ring that they wore in battles or something. They are illegal to show in Germany now so the wife sent us the ring. I thought it was neat. That was on my dad's side of the family. On the flipside, my mom's dad fought on the american side and got 9 cases of malaria while he served in europe and survived and got sent home with the purple heart haha. he died a couple of years ago edit: nice post nova Cantrip wrote:When I die, I want to be reincarnated as a woman's jogging bra.

My grandfather also fought in world war 2, he served during d-day and was the third wave onto normandy beach. Although he didnt have any kind of memorabilia he did show me a musket pistol that his great great grandfather looted off a british officer during the revolutionary war In an hour of Darkness a blind man is the best guide. In an age of Insanity look to the madman to lead the way.

The first attempt at posting this thread failed, so I forgot about a line I meant to say, although I think it was understood. In no way are these medals being displayed, showcased, or honored in my home. I look at them as a historical artifact, if that made sense. And Dragon, yeah, I think that was what I was trying to remember. I knew it had to do with something like that. Gunslinger- that is really cool. I would like to have seen something like that....revolutionary war.. just wow.

Rings don't kill people but I think part of it is the memories it brings, maybe not personal ones but collective memories of the human race. I do not know if I would be able to showcase any German/Nazi paraphernalia in my home..... My grandfather fought in WW2 in Africa with Rommel and was caught and escaped German capture THREE times in four years! He and my grandmother wrote a book called Twice to Freedom about his service. It is pretty detailed and cool.

Very neat. Never sell those medals, you own a piece of history there. If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe. - Carl Sagan My Backpack
