Its not the students or the staff really, its the fucking parents like the woman ahead of me, who, after being told 5 times that she was in the line for the Pentland Hills Dorm checkin, preceded to call her daughter and tell that she had found the line for the Lothian Dorms. She was also looking at a big sign that said, Pentland Hills. When she got up to the lady at the table, she preceded to argue, for 5 minutes, with the lady about what dorm the line was for. *Facepalm* She also failed at reading a basic map.

I have seen many of these "dorm move in days". It is indeed the parents who are just totally fucking braindead. I don't know what happens but they all lose the ability to comprehend reality and go off into this weird world on their own where they think they are being really helpful but in fact they are just horribly embarrassing their child and often acting like a dickhole to anyone they think might be a staff person. As the day goes on you will see more and more bitchfests as family members explode at each other.

My favorite thing about dorm move in day though is how all the kids deck themselves out. Punks will have their hair freshly dyed and spiked, hippies will have rolled around in patchouli and put on their favorite tie-dye, the preppy kids will have on something they just bought the day before. My personal favorite of all time was the girl who had her name silkscreened in large letters on her t-shirt. She came over and introduced herself, when she said her name she pointed at her tits so I could read along. I don't blame her for wanting to show them off, I still remember them more than 10 years later. College is awesome.

Indeed, maybe its because the cord is finally being cut and they parents are desperate for some control. I dunno.

I rolled out of bed, showed and threw on the tshirt and shorts that hadn't been packed already. Whats that say about me?

I've never lived in a dorm. I've been in the dorms at CSUF, though, and I must say, I don't regret it.
