Just wondering how you all feel about this. I don't play the Call of Duty games online but personally I think one of the wonders of PC gaming was being able to choose whether you wanted a modded server, a specific clan server and the like. I think this is a bone-headed move by Activision but regardless the lemmings will still buy this game. Link to news. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6237497.html

It won't be that bad. Given the insane success of CoD4 online, I feel certain this isn't a step lightly made. They know what they're sticking their fingers into. The upside of this approach is that the leveling system is made all the more standardized. Movement speeds, damage, etc. will all be completely vanilla, forcing a totally even playing field for all players. I, for one, will be one of the dumb "lemmings." Safety + Peace

Sounds like a stupid idea to me. I think its good to have as many options available as possible. The point is moot though, because I wont be touching the thing. So put DRM and only Activision owned servers on it. Make it $100. I'll miss all the hubbub and be none the wiser. This is worth reading. It's one of Infinity Ward's devs talking about the matchmaking system. If you tl;dr the article, consider yourself incredible, as in "holds no credit," to slam the new system. Real advantages to this system include -Universal server rules. This means putting up with 203s and marty. Which is fine, pussbags. -Automated matchmaking, factoring in connection speed, player rank, preferred gametype, etc. If you've ever played a game on Live, it's like that. -Always-updated servers, always ready to play. Servers are updated at the same time as your client. Let's not be the hyper-typical whiny PC gamers. Just 'cause we're smarter than console ogres doesn't mean we're finicky. Safety + Peace

Someone down the road will have intercepted all of the server packets and there will be a makeshift server plugin. Maybe. Jeeps don't get stuck, they just take breaks. TripleBam wrote:That's the most spastic fucking pissing match I've ever seen. Good god.

I personally have never met a matchmaking system that I have liked. They always throw these advantAges out in front of pc gamers, foisting this cosnsole matchmaking model on us. I love connections to 13 year olds who have to shut down their server at 7:30 because their mom needs the computer to shop for shoes, etc. I hate mAtchmaking services. Especially for fps, they eliminate the "playground" feel of a community and instead of being frustrated by searching through a list until you find a favorite you can rely on. You are forced into a system that everyday you have to struggle , watching a search bar day after day hoping you get lucky. It's fucking rediculous we have to eat this shit served to us as something great, when it's really just a way for them to control content and prevent piracy Quote:

Yeah, heard about this the day of, simply put, IW has no respect for PC users, and just want to get more money out of it. They made it super casual, modding will be impossible, the only good servers in cod4 were the ones running promod/pam4 and now those are totally null, no mod tools. IW doesn't care about PC, they are basically porting the game. Match making is retarded, it didn't work in L4D, and it certainly won't work in MW2. There is a petition with about 140k+ signatures saying they aren't going to preorder, and asking IW to bring back dedicated servers. I don't know why you are quoting a LIAR like 402. Weeks ago he said MW2 would have all the features cod4 did, then the announce that, yeah he is credible...sike. The controlling piracy thing is BS, you can't control it, but the only way to get more people to buy your game is MP, with multiplayer you can use things like Anti-cheat to make sure people are using actual keys. Most of the people i know have now canceled their pre-orders, and are now going to just torrent for single player. GG IW. Even when you torrent it, you will be able to play on private servers. Jeeps don't get stuck, they just take breaks. TripleBam wrote:That's the most spastic fucking pissing match I've ever seen. Good god.

I agree....match making hasn't been a very good option so far. The upside to COD:MW 2 having match making is host migration. So even if that 13 year old has to go to bed at least the system will move the hosting over to the next best connection (theoretically) and after a few seconds you can continue playing.
Now that being said host migration could be extremely friggen annoying when either
1. People continually leave that are the host, thus interrupting your game constantly
2. People with really really shitty pings keep getting chosen as the host cause the system is a tard
<shrug>
I'm still picking it up...at this point either they will cave to the online petition (lawl at online petitions) and throw in dedicated servers or they wont....either which way, the game is completed and shipping so the issue is fixable w/ a patch

I'm willing to bet they'll end up adding dedicated server support, but you won't be able to rank up. Safety + Peace

ThexShadow wrote:Even when you torrent it, you will be able to play on private servers. They said that 60% of the people playing cod4 were using illegitimate copies. That would mean that 60% of the servers in cod4 were running sv_pure 0 and had pb off. That is complete non sense. Mostly because all those servers sucked hardcore, and nobody would wanna play there. I seriously doubt they will be adding ded servers. They are going this way to appeal to the mass console society, that doesn't have any standards for their games. They think by doing this that they will get more casual gamers to buy their game, without looking at the fact that they slapped hardcore PC users in the face. MW2 will have almost zero competition base, so it won't do that well. Even if you aren't a fan of competition, if a game has a good competition base, it will stay alive for a long time.
