Right so, playing MW2 I get such horrible lag spikes its insane. I honestly thought it was just that game until tonight when I first jumped on TF2 for the first time in about 3 months. Turns out I get the same result, I'm fine for just a few moments in the 60's ping area. Then suddenly it jumps to 400+ from time to time. It seems that all my online is effected. Ive recently about only a month and a half ago had a very nasty virus that deleted all my HD's to the bare bone.

I knew that reformatting all my HD's would kill any chance of retrieving any of my data back so I did a fresh install of windows XP. Since before that my net was perfect with no lag spikes at all. Now I get them all the time, even when I'm surfing the net although its much harder to notice. The second I got my OS installed I immediately installed my anti-virus and did a full system scan and killed the little fucker. After that I've done w/e OS updates required along with drivers for everything else.

Can my system be such effected that:

1. Its never been defragged
2. Ive never reformatted
3. Literally tons of broken/corrupted data still remain.

After moving anything that I've managed to save plus w/e is left on my internal HD's I plan on moving over to my external before re-doing a complete format of both my internal HD's.
