How is it? Is it good for gaming? I currently use XP. My comp can handle 64 bit.

If you have 4 gigs of Ram get Windows 7 64 bit. If you have less than 3, don't use go 64 because it eats up lots of memory. Using 2 gigs of Ram with 64 bit and playing a game with will push your memory to close to 100% load. I'm currently using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and it's great. It is less resource hungry than vista 64 bit and is simplified. Think of it as an enhanced XP. If you have a beefy system it also works great for gaming. One odd issue I ran into however: If you use a sound card make sure to set windows 7 64 bit to high performance power consumption. If you keep it on balanced or power saver it makes your songs and game sound effects have a weird crackling sound. It may have been fixed in a recent update but thats what I encountered when i first went over to 7 Pro 64 bit. Why get Pro 64 over Home Premium 64? Well premium can utilize a maximum of 16 gigs of ram, Pro can utilize 128 or something like that. Theres a few other differences that are documented on the windows website. But for gaming with 4 gigs of ram or more its awesome. I'm the leetest one here

Win 7 works awesome (64 bit version here) and everything is smooth and easy to use. However why upgrade if xp is working fine for you? Me, i got it for 30 bucks from my school although I do not think that the retail price tag is small enough to make the upgrade from xp worth it. Sure everything looks great, the menus have been refined and all this other good stuff but for 200 dollars? Just a thought...

Also have W7 (x64), very nice, runs great. Cost me nothing. Some TF2 maps will crash, but I think it may be a RAM issue. Jeeps don't get stuck, they just take breaks. TripleBam wrote:That's the most spastic fucking pissing match I've ever seen. Good god.

If you have a computer that can take advantage of Windows 7 (64-bit, DirectX 10 compatible, tons of RAM, or any of the above) go for it. It's pretty good, the loading process has been really streamlined and everything takes a matter of seconds to get started. The only complaints I can even think of are that it borrows the "administrator permissions denied" weirdness from Vista and that it sucks at segregating 32-bit and 64-bit applications. The benefits outweigh the costs. Win Cookies Awarded: 7 (bawwwwww)
