One of the things that I do to earn a little bit of money on the side is flip domains. I find some "killer" domain name that is unregistered, then turn around and put it on an auction site and wait for someone go "Oh damn! I wish I had registered that!" then buy it for a little over what I payed to register it. Naturally this means that I register a lot of domains, have a lot of domains in my portfolio at any given time, and transfer quite a few. As a result, my choice of registrar is not a casual one. When I started doing this, I choose Networks Solutions because they were the large, established, reputable company that offered the services I needed. Godaddy, at the time, was seen as the place that coaxed smalled business to buy domain names and hosting they really didn't need and NS was where serious biznatch go done. But times have changed and GD is seen in much the same light as NS these days and while I haven't had any problems NS, quite the opposite actually, I am looking to migrate my portfolio to GD to take advantage of their lower prices, and pad my bottom line. That being said, before I do anything expensive (transferring domains from one registrar to another takes money), I wanted to ask the wise internetz on their opinion of Godaddy, if they have anything that I should consider, and if there are any reasons to stay with NS. GO!

PS isn't what you do illegal? "Domain Squatting" or some such? I think its only "illegal" if you knowingly take a trademarked name and register the domain to prevent the trademark owner from having it, and then charge the premium. Unless he is name jacking with software help the moment the sites that become unregistered, then that seems pretty blatently illegal Seems like a really hard thing to prosecute. Probably why companies either just pay the premium, or come up with something close like "Pepsicola.com" and whatnot. Quote:

No, its not ilegal so long are you aren't messing with people's trademarks. Also I registered a domain with Godaddy and I do not know what this supposed ease people are talking about it is. I found the NS has far more polish, better instructions, and is more straight forward. Godaddy's DNS set up is pain as well. But It got the job done and I was able to get a domain and private registration for less than a domain at NS, though. I'll probably go with godaddy for the price but I like NS a lot more. And I'm not using either for hosting, I have my own, very nice, hosting.
