So my gradebook is a Java platform.
Fine, when it works.

However, I updated Java (working on a MAC) and now the gradebook opens in Text Edit. I can't work with it in that way!

Help me fix it?

(Don't tell me to ask our tech guy - the one that we had "resigned" suspiciously to save money for the district and we (no one asked me) hired a student at a local tech school who is here once a week and knows next to nothing about MACs.

Never mind. I fixed it.

Don't ask me how.

I also magically fixed my email client.

(My guess is that someone reset the router on my floor).

Nothing gets by you, 3Bam!

Surprisingly, however, our tech student (who is 60+ years old) hasn't been in the building all day.

If a file mysteriously starts opening in a new program, click the file and cmd+I - this is like right click > properties on Windows. Near the bottom of the pane is "Open with:" Find and select the appropriate program and then select "Change all" to make it perma.

Or, alternatively, open Java prefs and force it to open all .jar programs in the JRE instead of Text Edit.

I tried that. I have no idea wtf happened, but I'm just glad that it seemed to be fixed when I left work today.

Good job on that one. Haha. If you need any help in the future I'm apparently the only one on here that knows his way around a Mac. Feel free to get a hold of me.

Thanks. It was super frustrating. My guess is that the update for Java REALLY screwed things up with my gradebook, so when I went back to a previous version, it worked a little better.

Of course, that doesn't tell me why my email client decided to work suddenly, but I'll take it!

Java is evil and is a for lazy programmers who can't write decent code. Obviously its evilness spread to other parts of the system. /thread

Also, there are many things you can get by with going cheap on, IT is not one of them. Eventually stuff breaks and if your guy doesn't know what to do, you are fucked.
