So I just found out that the internet out the place I'm subletting from for the 3 months over summer has each apartment's internet capped at 120KB/s. And I'll be sharing that with someone. fuck.

Sounds like it's time to tether a 3G phone.
Or try to hack in on someone's wireless network.

My phone is only EDGE so its no better. The wireless I can do, but most of the networks around me will probably be on the same crappy internet.

120KB/sec isn't that bad.. it's almost 1Mbps. Your pings won't be awesome but you should be able to game.

Or did you mean 120Kbps? That's pretty horrid. Better than dialup, though!

And the final results are:

Not terrible, its definitely ok for browsing the web casually and for checking email. That said, downloading anything is a pain in the ass, and gaming will probably not happen any time soon. And those numbers are with only me using net, I'll have to share that .88Mb/s with my apartment mates.

You kids these days are spoiled...
56kbps can handle casual web browsing and email, and some people use to play TF2 with that around when it was released, I imagine. You've got 15x that. Should still be plenty, even if you're sharing it. =P

Just don't torrent porn.
