Giller and I added 45 dives to our dive log this year, fuck yeah!

Do any of you all dive?

I know Endyss and his wife do, we went to Bonaire with them just over a month ago. Giller and I are addicted. I wish I could dive all day, every day.

Ah, one of the A B C islands here:

http://maps.google.com/m...8gEwAA&t=h&z=12

I was going to take my scuba final dive a week after New Year's Eve a long time ago. I got wasted on vodka and decided to go for a run. Unfortunately, I ran off a rather large drop-off and rolled down a hill for a little bit which left me in an arm sling. So no, I don't scuba.

However, I did snorkel last year on the island to the west of the island you visited. Was visiting a bud who worked on the island at the time so it was a cheap trip.

Good pic.

yet another thing on my bucket list is learning to dive, especially given my obsession with coral reefs and whatnot. My roommate is a former SAR diver in the navy, and both he and his fiance are avid divers, but school is taking up any spare time I would have, and money isn't there sadly.

Why aren't you two posting up more pics of your dive sites? Do you do any underwater photography? I promise I'll keep my comments about Giller's abs between me and him this time

I came close once to getting a scuba license. Unfortunately I didn't have the funds at the time....

Come to think of it I don't have funds now either :(

Scuba is surely one thing I'll get around to since I've always wanted to try it.

Cantrip - yep, one of the good ol' ABC islands. It was pretty damn awesome - it was all shore diving which was awesome. I'd love to go back. We did 18 dives that week and didn't even scratch the surface on hitting all the dive sites.

Sorry about your tumble that prevented you from getting your certification! You should totally give it another go!

Rik - honestly, when you get certified they teach you everything you need to know to be safe. When you dive with a buddy and do everything properly, you have a better chance of drowning in that swimming pool than you do 100 ft below the surface! :) I'm an ocean girl though, so I'd rather die there than freezing to death on a mountain or something. :)

Crappy - I will try to post some of our pictures later this week when I'm on our laptop that has them. I put them all on my facebook page if you're on facebook. We don't currently have an underwater housing for our camera so we've either rented or in Bonaire, shared Endyss' wife's camera. I was actually impressed with her camera and housing and she didn't spend an arm and a leg. For a professional housing and lighting, you're looking at several thousand and that doesn't even include the camera! Obviously we aren't going to get all the professional stuff but we do want something good. We're about to pick up a new digital camera and will probably end up getting an underwater housing for it before our next dive trip.

When you finish school you absolutely need to get certified. With your interest in reefs and stuff I know you'll love it. Oh, and don't be too sad but you don't get to experience the awesomeness of Giller's abs nearly as much when he's in a wetsuit. I'll make sure to find a picture of him without a shirt or wetsuit on for you. ;)

Splinter - I hear you. Diving isn't cheap but if it's something you want to do, start as soon as you can. Giller and I spent our money on it in incriments - we did our open water certification and bought the basics - mask, snorkel, booties, fins, and wetsuits. The next year we got our advanced certification and continued with the gear we had. This year, knowing we were into diving for life, we got our enriched air certification and then bought BCD's, regulators, and dive computers. Like I told Crappy, an underwater housing for our digital camera will likely be next. :) Honestly, you don't even have to have any gear, you can always rent it if needed!

So, yeah. Can you tell I'm just a little obsessed with diving? It's an amazing experience and I recommend it to any and everyone. Giller and I got our first certification in 2008 and until this year did about 35 dives in 2 years. This year was the year where we said screw it to all inclusive beach vacations and jumped into Aggressor cruises (live aboard dive boats in which you eat, sleep, and dive!) where I was one of 2 divers to do all 27 dives in a week, and trips with our local dive shop in which we stayed at a dive resort and the whole trip was planned around diving. All I think about is our next trip and how much I wish I lived somewhere where I could dive every day.... Do you think I have an addiction? ;)

(forgive me in advance for any spelling and/or grammar errors, I typed this on my iPhone at 4:30 in the morning, lol! I did a quick read through but I'm sure I made some errors... Which I hate to do!)

I forgot 2 dives!! We actually did 47 dives in 2010!! Fuck yeah!!

For me:
Hawaii - 29 dives (2 on Oahu, 27 on Hawaii)
Bonaire - 18 dives

For Giller:
Hawaii - 23 dives (2 in Oahu, 21 on Hawaii)
Mexico - 5 dives (we went for a wedding... I didn't get to dive because my broken ankle wasn't completely healed yet... I was so jealous of his dives!)
Bonaire - 18 dives
(I think Giller has 1 recovery dive in our local lake for a weapon... He's on the local search and recovery dive team)

47 this year + 35 the previous 2 years means we are at 82 dives!! We will be hitting our 100th dive in 2011!!

Woah! Totally wicked awesome!

I love diving, its freaking awesome. Its almost like you're in space...with space fish. Its so relaxing but exciting at the same time. I've only been in Cancun and a flooded quarry here in Indiana. I'm totally jealous. =D

Only problem I have is when my teeth feel weird after biting down on that mouthpiece for so long.

Awesome that you dive, Muff! I haven't had the chance to dive in Mexico yet, so I'm jealous about you diving Cancun!! :)

OK, so you have no idea how difficult it was for me to only pick the 7 photos I picked and I only have pictures on this laptop from Bonaire and Hawaii. (we've dove St. Lucia, Bahamas, Hawaii, Bonaire, and like I said in a previous post, Giller got to dive Puerto Morelos, Mexico while we were there for a wedding and I still had a bum ankle). Most of our underwater photos are from Bonaire and Hawaii since we don't have an underwater camera and didn't have access to one in St. Lucia or the Bahamas. I saved a picture I had on facebook to the laptop from the Bahamas because it's pretty damn cool and couldn't be left out. So here we go -

This is a turtle we accidentally woke up on a night dive with our dive lights in Boniare -

This is an awesome picture Giller got of a shrimp in Bonaire -

This one is for you, Crappy.... Looking out over some of the coral in Bonaire -

This is a picture of a giant frog fish in Hawaii -

Looking up at a manta ray on a night dive in Hawaii as it swims over us -

A couple dolphins from the pod of dolphins that came to play with us on my birthday in Hawaii -

And this is on our shark dive in the Bahamas -

I really have no idea what camera was used and all that jazz. The only picture not taken by us was the one of the shark dive, it was taken by the photographer on the dive. I didn't love the camera we rented in Hawaii because most of the pictures are really blue. I know the cloud cover and water color all have an affect but we've got pictures from the photographers on the boat that had better equipment that weren't blue at all. The pictures from Bonaire were from Endyss' wife's camera, which did well. She didn't want to do pictures the entire time so Giller took the camera on several dives and the 3 pictures above were just a couple of the great shots he got.

I do have more photos on facebook if anyone wants to see. Just message me and I'll give you my real name. :)

I'm a photographile, so I love camera stuff - but underwater equipment is an excuse to triple the price on anything sold. D=

Don't be too jealous about my trip - I went right after a hurricane wrecked the reefs I was going to dive...so it was interesting, but not nearly as epic - but I did get to see a manta ray, which was totally awesome. Also some nurse sharks and some flounders which scared the crap out of me the first time they zoomed off.

is it the wildlife, or just confidence in swimming ability? Because if you can swim well, its really not that big of a deal unless you are in surging water, or high current areas. hell, I enjoy freediving as much as scuba diving. Zen out, take a deep breath, and dive down 50-70 feet. (just do it with a buddy so you dont shallow water black out and kill yourself) Really stupid to try that alone.
