Here's the scope.  On my roommates laptop I can get internet just freaking fine at anytime of the day but when I try to get internet on my computer I can't.

FACT 1 the problem is not with my ISP

The only way I can get internet on my computer is if I turn of my modem and computer off.  then turn on modem then turn on computer.

FACT 2 It is possible to get internet on my computer

I can surf on the internet on my computer for about five mins then it dies.  I believe my IP keeps resetting.

FACT 3 My laptop is connected directly to the modem when this happens.  I am not using any routers.  I am not using my USB port to connect to the modem.  I am using a CAT 5 cable and my ethernet card.  No wireless shit yet.

FACT 4 I will be forever greatful for the person who has the solution to my problem.

Please help!  Its been awhile guys! I'm ready to get back into the game!!!!

me thinks your ethernet card is kaput....

I was also gonna have you check something....go to START/MY COMPUTER  and right-click on an empty space..... click PROPERTIES/click Hardware/then Device Manager/now click the lil plus sign and it'll open up the type of Network card you use...right-click it and another window will pop-up and at the very bottom it "should" read ENABLED.......then if you are having difficulties(which you are) then click the Troubleshoot button.....if your still having trouble change the card it doesn't cost much and their easy to install just make sure you ground yourself b4 going inside for surgery  :D   don't know how much people charge but you could ask.......you may even update the driver too....doesn't hurt.

So Has anybody ever have to do this with a laptop?  On a desktop we would have no problems, but I really don't know my way around lappy's.  Can I just by any new network card made for a laptop or WTF?

Edit:

Oh Yeah the troubleshoot shit didn't fix my problem.  Solution: contact the hardware manufacture.

1) Try a different ethernet cable
2) Reinstall the NIC drivers
3) Replace the NIC
