Lately I've noticed that a pretty nice crowd in the Tomb (8-16) can dwindle down to like 4 people in the matter of seconds, and it is mostly after a map change. (No not SECONDS after, minutes after. I give people a chance to connect lol) I'm just wondering what maps people do and don't like? It seems like Pedestal is one of those maps that some people like, and some people don't like. I think everyone likes it, but too much of it bores people and they scamper off. Substation and Dirtwork have that emptying effect as well sometimes. Personally, my favorites right now are 2fort, Kiruna[Finally got to play it!! ], Stone Fort, and Bedrooms. I like sniping so all of these are good for me, and it's fun just as much to rush in all of these for me. Stone Fort IS awfully big, but if we got crowds, it could be awesome. So, what's everyone else got to say?? [20:39] {pDs} t3h Cam3l: hey craig, how do i set up a private server? [20:40] {pDs} t3h Cam3l: i want to teach my gf how to play and the crypt was empty but its starting to fill [20:40] ҜịηĢ ÄœÅĵÏŅņ: Fail.

Hmm. Tough call. I think the bottom line reason is that the Fight Club has more regulars, so people tend to just take off when they feel that the Tomb is getting empty. However, I noticed that Pedestal, Canyon, Rooftops, and Refinery tend to have the most people.
I personally love Dirtwork, but yeah, I think it does have an emptying effect.{pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name Jessica343: so I can get heals {pDs} Lead Salad: oh damn good idea {pDs} Lead Salad has changed their name to {pDs} Lead Salad (is a girl) Jessica343: hahah

Meh, I don't play CTF unless it's on the Tomb. (I don't know where the hell I racked up 5,600 pts lmao) It just occurred to me, to actually LOOK into my map folder for maps that are good/bad for me. I'm looking now, and some of them don't even ring a bell (that's how often they get played ) Well, regardless, added to my favorites from above have to be defrost (just plain ctf_defrost and football) as well as Well, nuclear football, school, and with a decent crowd canals. Well is a def favorite. (Can you tell I love sniping??) This does not express poor feelings to map makers. The other maps are great (way f'n better than I could do) but I simply just feel that some maps suit play better than others. [20:39] {pDs} t3h Cam3l: hey craig, how do i set up a private server? i agree i just love the game so any map is good, some alot better then others such as pedestal, canyon, bedrooms etc. mainly because not enough ppl play for the huge maps like kiruna and like king said i only play on the tomb and my shitty comp makes all maps laggy so i may not know wdf im talkin bout lol
but my point is most ppl as king says "dwindle" because they want a small map thats easy to traverse(such as pedestal) as opposed to 1 were you have to work to score the flag(kiruna).
but thats just what i think lol MakeSureItsCharcoalGrilled wrote: you, sir, are a complete dickhead! thank you for your insightful contribution. please don't ever return. Cantrip wrote:EXSUGO MEUS TESTIS abby whip pwnage! -------------(>*.*)>----->

As I experiment with different maps I find too that the smaller maps get alot more play. I feel it is the amount of action in a map that brings alot of people too. The smaller maps usually put you in enemy contact alot quicker and alot more often. People are not just aimlessly wandering around doing nothing. I think it is safe to say that there are alot of short attention spans in FPS games.
I think it is safe to say that demise is coming reaaaaaal soon. This map is even smaller than pedistal and even faster paced. Sorry King.. Not much sniping though Once Known as Grumpy... Oh hell lets face it... I have and will always be Grumpy

Well. This may be farfetched but Map details. Ive noticed alot of the maps not in all of the other servers map lists have Boring bland walls, no texture, no pizazz! And people think "Oh this map stinx" and leave. But thats just a far fetched observation made by... well me. Any who the foot ball maps, such as school and NFS, arent very noob friendly. Like this mornin we had a french little boy, who had no idea what to do with the flag, and kept running into the spawn room. He didnt speak any english so no one could help him. (not to mention he was spaming the mic with frenchness)
If there were more maps with flavor, color, happy atractive symbols, cool designs on the walls it would help... but prolly not. But a great example of a fruitful map is twofort lite b2 i think its called... Oh hdr at its best!
Thats my two pennys. Dats my ride

I agree with reaper , the sniper maps take to long for game play to develop. This is a fast paced game , the smaller maps do better. Not to mention with Kiruna it gets laggy as hell.

not saying your wrong but in my opinon i think that the purpose of the game is to kill your enemies and use teamwork to capture the flag not to study the walls and textures on the maps MakeSureItsCharcoalGrilled wrote: you, sir, are a complete dickhead! thank you for your insightful contribution. please don't ever return. i agree that its a team based game. i personally think that the small maps (the ones where you can't go 5 seconds without being shot) are too small. i absolutely love the old rotation on the Tomb. yeah some of them were kinda big, but those were the kind of maps that i enjoyed.

I agree. I don't much like the smaller maps. They bother me, because I can barely grab weapons before I get shot. That's why I tend to like the larger maps like Stone Fort or Kiruna. Lag is a big issue with maps these days, but it's hard to fix unless you throw some huge fog effect to block far sight, but then it takes away from seeing the other base. It becomes less about there being no lag, and more about being too hard to see stolen flags running away from you. Fast paced gameplay is good, but strategic gameplay is harder and more fun. Grabbing a flag, taking it and throwing it up top for someone to grab and jump down with, isn't hard. I understand that you're getting shot while running up the pedestal for the flag, but really, c'mon... it's just too easy a strategy to not pull off sometimes. GrumpyOldMan wrote:

OK I have a map... that I have been working on for months. its big but its tight, it flows great and its stylish! (for HabitatHxC) The problem I am having is that vis will not chop up the level correctly no matter what I do. ANd i mean I have used hintbrushes everywhere... Some parts of the map have great fps, but other parts it drops to anywhere from 35 - 45. I have been playing some straight dm the last couple days, and i was like holyshit there are some cool maps on here that I have never seen before, and a lot of them run the whole time at 30-40fps and gameplay was still solid. SO should I release this map, even though fps is weak? <THREAD HI-JACK> Does anybody know the author of these maps for DM? I have searched all through the internet but have not been able to find them. I am looking to port these maps and the creators blessing is a good thing dm_megatropolis_3 ykk_hot_topic dm_no_smoke_center_v4 dm_rockvalley GammaRayStation_X1 </THREAD HI-JACK> You wanna take this to Fuck Town? Oh gadzooks, yes!

if you are running 30-40 fps when you test the map on your own computer, it will lag seriously on a full server. if people remember KOTH, i was running about 45 fps when i was testing it, but it got almost unplayable when more then 15 people joined the server. i say do what you can to improve the fps to at lest 60 on your own machine, otherwise, it won't fun smoothly on a full server.
