My 6600GT had catastrophic fan failure. I took the card out and blew out the dust and all that (it wasn't bad), and still no luck. I can play for about 5 to 10 minutes before I start hitting 130c and then my fps drops down to single digits and a warning pops up telling me to please not cook my video card. What's impressive is I get no visual corruption, usually when they get that hot you get artifacts - 130c is hot as fuck but the card keeps chugging along perfectly (minus the warning and the slow as fuck FPS).

Anyone know how hard it is to get a replacement fan out of LeadTek? I sent them an email requesting one.
Anyone ever swapped a heatsink/fan combo off a 6600GT and have advice?

I'd say go for aftermarket cooling, but since its a 6600GT, the money you'd spend on getting a good cooler would probably equal to a lot of the value of the card.

Sell the card to someone you know and have them slap a cooler on it, while you go buy something good for yourself

Had the same problem with my msi 6600gt. Ended up directing cool air with secondary fan and that kept it stable. Then sold the 2 of them and replaced with a evga7950gt..., Which promptly killed my viewsonic g90fb monitor. Too much resolution! Upgrades can be more costly than you think! Rumour has it evga makes the best stuff for nvidia.

That happened to my 9800 one time. I strapped a case fan to it with electrical tape and it worked like a charm. Cheap and ugly, but it got the job done.

Then I built a new machine... so the frankenstein card was retired.
