I have an ipod, and although this may sound strange, it's making a moaning-like noise that sounds like an old man. It sucks, and I have no damn clue as to what it could be. In case you haven't figured out already, this is a noise coming from the player itself, not the music and stuff I have on it. is it still playing music? usually any major noise coming out of those things is a death knell... Can you describe the noise in more detail? is it a humming or a grinding? do what cantrip said and check is it under warranty. you'll probably have to replace it. yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

My ipod has made a lot of weird noises in it's lifetime, but never that. What kind do you have? Video, nano? Capacity? Color? Serial number?

I have a 30GB video ipod (the updated 5th gen), and I don't really know what to describe on the noise, but it... sounds like a fat kid grunting. I think it might be the harddrive disk, but I have no problems playing video or audio, it's jsut annoying. if this was a woman-sounding grunt I might not care as much. {pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name

Even if its not making the click of death, it could be your hard drive failing or the circuit board inside the ipod failing. If you've still got a while before your warranty expires, I suggest wait it out if it does break. If your warranty is about to run out, or is run out, give apple a call and ask them about it. Apple's customer service is suprisingly good, my friend had an out of warranty ipod (about 3 months) and they let him RMA it at an Ipod store plus extended his warranty by 90 days.

i bet one of the noise reducing bushings got dislodged and re lodged in a manner that allows ipods to act as a conduit to the netherworld. i saw it on celebrity paranormal project. they use heat guns, forward looking infrared detectors, and of course, 5thgen video ipods with bushing issues. its a fact.

you need to video this and post it on youtube. or even better, play the video on the ipod and then record the ipod making the noise while playing video making the noise. rinse and repeat a few dozen times - then post THAT on youtube. you will be an internet celebrity. seriously - your ipod's hard drive is probably unhappy. if it's not under warranty you might be fucked any day now.
