Lately my computer has been freezing, almost always when I run a virus scan.  I know it doesn't have any viruses because I just got it back form geek squad.  They did say that they recommend a new mother board and hard drive, do you think these could be causing the freezing?

It could be that Geek Squad broke your computer. They are notoriously incompetent (and overpriced).
If they ever got their grubby hands on my machine I would wipe the HDD and reinstall everything.

How long does the virus scanner run before it freezes? Does it always freeze in the same spot? What virus scanner is it? Have you tried reinstalling it? Have you run scandisk? (etc. I could go on for long ass time).

It's mcafee and it just worked, it's weird. I can't leave my computer while it's running or it won't work. I stayed at my computer this time and it ran all the way through, lol. But it would freeze in different spots, like whenever i got up from my computer, it would freeze when I came back.

does it freeze when your screen saver comes on? what are your power options set to do? (e.g. is your HDD getting turned off automatically after 20 minutes?).

Here's a bad case scenario for you...

From what I can gather from this, it sounds like the same thing I just went through at the beginning stage. I was having a lot of weird freezes/crashes for a while, and got progressively worse. I also used MacAfee and was having problems with that frequently. Couldn't find a source for crashes and it kept happening after a format so I figured it was a hardware problem. Eventually I got a message saying "the CPU was disconnected or changed" before it started windows. It would still work the same as before for a while, but I had to press F1 when the message came up every time I started it. 2,3 or 4 weeks later the motherboard completely died. At some point near the end of this hell, if I left the mouse and keyboard untouched for too long it would freeze. Rarely froze while I was doing anything that involved using the mouse.

I hope your problem is not as bad.

I just remember chewing it for 5 minutes before giving up. I tried to fit the whole slab into my mouth and some of it started sliding down to where I started to gag on it. I ended up pulling the whole 7" piece by the very tail end from my esophagus before stuffing it under my seat cushion.

Yeah, I left for awhile, and it didn't freeze, it seems like it only freezes when I leave the virus scan running. I'll most likely have to buy a new mother board, but it cost a hell of a lot for the geek dudez to put it in. I'll probably just have my uncle help me. But yeah, i'll keep posting if it keeps happening.

Well, there could be so much wrong with your computer if it's just freezing.

Windows could be borked, hardware problems, drivers, spyware, all sorta of stuff. First thing you should do is just format and reinstall windows, don't listen to the idiot at bestbuy, they just want to sell their stupid garbage to you. If the motherboard was the problem, I doubt it'd be just randomly freezing like that.

Find a nerd kid on your block that's into computers to see whats wrong, he'll probably do it for free or way cheaper than the losers at bestbuy.

My laptop was bought at bestbuy and i took it in to the geek squad and they are fucking retarded they asked me what i was useing on all my computers and i told them spybot and sysmantec anti-virus, and they tired to tell me that it wont work and tired to sell me there crap. I told them no and mine works just fine they didnt like that, and i told them i was going to take there crap off my laptop and they tired to get me to leave it on. In short dont go to them for help they wont help you, only ou of your money. Do a reformat and see if that helps, if it is windows that should get rid of you problems. I reformat my desktop about every month but to reformat and reinstall windows and reinstall the mb, vidoe card and sound card and some games take me about 2 -2 1/2 hours, but i do have a sata drive also.

WARNING!
Times mentioned in the above post are stated in WHUT time... which is not the time normal humans are accustomed. Whut time is relative. Today is defined as whenever Whut happens to get a bug up his ass and thinks he is gotten sorta of close to being in the mood. The actual real life timeframe for these occurences is unknown at this time. Sometimes it happens more than once in a day and during other periods it would be more like for hell to freeze over than anything actuallly getting done. Currently we are in a time frame where it would seem that there would be more of a chance of Dragon getting a girlfriend as far fetched as that might be than there would be of anything actually happening here.

Ya..I have had a bad experience from 'computer repair places...

So I bring my laptop in because the AC Adapter port broke on the inside (According to them). So the laptop is dropped off...supposed to take at most a week to fix. I finally get it back a month later and the numb nuts destroyed my sound!!! >.< "Oh we did not harm the sound system in any way, we are sure." So i guess the sound destroyer fairy came in and did it?

And no, they did not fix the sound.

Never applied, never wanted to apply. If someone ever wanted something done for a computer, I always offered it to them for free or told them to find some computer kid around their neighborhood to do it for like 10 bucks or something.

Sorry, but paying 50-200 bucks for stuff you can google in less than 5 minutes isn't worth it. Plus all the shit they "recommend" you to buy when they're too stupid to fix it themselves.
