How is your moon coming along J-Town? Live has been using a phalinx to crush high ranking players in the middle of gal 1. It is only going to be so long before they come to me. I have been working out methods to do a fast save in case i get intercepted but I am understanding they have the timing worked out to be 1 to 3 seconds and that is just not enough time to get away no matter what you do.

heh.. i guess i could center a ton of recyclers around my main planet. Step those off the planet as soon as i realize that I am being chased home and then use em to start grabbing up my own pieces before the bad guys get here with theirs.

Its a thought but would be better if we could get intel down here of our own to try and ward this stuff off with. That would be in your hands J-town.

the recycler thing is a good idea. what you could also try is to fleetsave to my moon on a transport mission or something. I believe that any mission to and from a moon will not show up on a phalanx.

Edit: actually i'm not sure about that. it's mentioned in passing somewhere but i don't know how true it is as i havn't seen it mentioned anywhere else. Moons themselves cannot be phalanxed, so the best way of fleetsaving is to a DF from your moon. If you think your under threat from a phalanx it might be best to arrange a moon shot sooner rather than later, although some people can go 20+ attempts before they get one!

another tip i read is to break your fleet into segments when you fleetsave and stagger their arrival. it increases your chances of not being phalanxed as you won't look as profitable (although i'm sure someone with a large enough fleet can break thiers down to hit each segment, it's not as easy for them to crash you)..
yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

Well things are going a little slow. I have only been able to get my first set of buildings (Lunar base, robo, phalanx). My profits have been a little low recently for the same reason I got the moon. My entire fleet happened to converge on my main planet and got wiped out. So, so far my only real source for resources has been the mines of two of my planets. Since I was rendered fleetless except for a few cruisers and recyclers elsewhere I have had to build some ships/cargo, improve mines (crystal mainly), and slightly improve defense (because this moon places a huge target on my back and I get probed by more people than I can see). I should start the second building stage tonight.

Sorry i haven't been keeping yall up to date on J-Moony Moony. When I get things going I will surly spread my vast knowledge and wisdom.

Sounds like he has level 1.. Charc.. how much of a range does this give him..

and does anyone know where this damn moon Live is using for these hits? They have been feeding info to doc-polish student and sencho who are out looking to outdo each other in Hall of Fame hits..

Moon is owned by someone fomerally by the name of SaintAnger who now has named himself Problem Child.

I am imagining that with the players involved this moon is HIGHLY developed.

Charc: another moon man question.. can a planet in the 499 system be scanned from gal 2? otherwords do I only need to be aware of moons to the the one side or would anything in the lower end of gal 2 be a problem?

no, moons can only phalanx within the one galaxy. so if you have a moon in system 499, well you've got the short end of the straw as you'll only have half the range.

oh and the range formula is ((phalanx level)^2)-1. so a level 1 phalanx has a range of 0 systems, which means you can only scan the system your moon is in. It increases exponentially though which is good, because they are pretty damn expensive.

J-town i just noticed that your moon is only 4000km  in size. the forumla for the max number of fields is ((moon size)/1000)^2. so you will have only max 16 fields. I wouldn't be too bothered though, as when you run out of fields you can begin to deconstruct robotic factories and replace them with another phalanx level. Build it lunar base, robotic, phalanx in that order til you've used up the fields, then deconstruct a robotic for a phalanx til you have the max no. of phalanxes. You'll still get a level 10 or 11 phalanx on there eventually. it's just build times will be astronomically slow when you begin to deconstruct the robotics.

Oh I was not looking to build one out there.. More like looking for a good place to be as safe as possible from one.

Hey Grumps I found thee moons near your 1:499 planet. One is 1:491:5 by Ottoman of HoLYTuRK n also 1:491:11 by R3v3nG3 (who is currently in vacation mode) of OXY. There is also 1:469:8 by the fighter of Imperial. I checked all the way down to 1:440 or so, cuz unless they have a really hige phalanz they shouldnt be able to reach you.

Edit: AAAAHHHH I think this might be the one you speak of Grumps, 1:434:4 by jupiix of Live. Or maybe 1:420:2 by xbot of 303PL

High-resolution sensors scan the complete spectrum of all radiation falling on the phalanx. High-performance computers determine microscopic energy fluctuations to gain information about ship movements on distant planets. For the scan, energy in the form of deuterium (5,000) must be available on the moon. Scan by switching to the Galaxy View from the moon and clicking on an enemy planet in sensor range.

Hope this says enough

Grumps I don't know if this helps but the other day I fleet saved with deployment instead of transport. When i recalled my fleet after i got home from work I could see it on the Fleet screeen but not the overview screen. I thought i fucked up and left my fleet somewhere. But then I read wikipedia about it.

Deployment is a mission only available when sending your own ships from one of your planets to another for the sole purpose of stationing said fleet at the other planet.

Resources may be carried by the deploying fleet.

Half of the deuterium cost to send the deploy mission will not be used unless the fleet is recalled and will arrive with the stationed fleet.

A recalled deploy mission cannot be seen by a sensor phalanx which makes a deploy/recall mission the safest way to fleetsave under a sensor phalanx.

No one can see your fleet this way. Now as for being on an attack mission , meh ?

Awww..

This is excellant work my friend..

Question: how high can you get a moonchance? I have this issue in 1:336 where this ranked 36 crud keeps hitting my main planet whenever he feels like and there just is not enough defense I can build to ward him off it seems. (attacks of 110+ battleships)

I am thinking now of trying another tatic of filling the skies over the planet with light fighters so that if he hits again he just might give me the moon and then I would be able to make his life more misarable. I thoughtt max chance was 20% though?

max chance is always 20%, it's capped.

Also another thing to note. Moon size is completely random and has nothing to do with the size of the DF. I got lucky with a half decent sized moon. J-Town didn't, but still has enough to make it usable for phalanxing only really.

And yeah, if there is a moon in your area the only way you should ever fleetsave is by deploying and then recalling. Remember you have to recall though, allow the deployment to reach its destination and you could be toast. Many people say fleetsave in the morning, and recall at lunch or whatever, another option is to fleetsave at night, recall in the morning and have it arrive home just after you come in the door from
 work.
yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.
