need to know the provider, the type of cable hooked to the modem RG59 or is it RG6, is the line split using a radioshack spitter, or other cheap splitter(RCA, anything gold plated.), if you cant get into the modem what are your levels (Foreward, and Return, MER & BER, SNR.) also is this a house or an apartment.

ok, you're in an apartment. so that means it's probably wired internally with rg59 (cable that was used for antenna before cable, it's cheaper so contractors who wire new construction use it). How many CABLE splitters are there before the cable hits your modem. if y'r modem is hooked right to a wall plate, try taking the wall plate off of the wall and check the cable situation behind it, there may be a splitter behind that. 90% of the time its bad splitters and fittings, Also type 192.168.100.1 into your browser and see if you can pull diagnostics such as downstream/upstream/signal to noise ratio. If you can pull diagnostics post them, if they're shitty I'll tell you and you call the cable company and have them fix it. if I lived down the street I'd be able to fix it edit: lemmy, not everybody knows how to pull diagnostic info, or even knows what rg59/6 is. I had a similar problem in my old apartment where a splitter died and turn my network connection into total shit - the obvious first thing to try though is to unplug all your network equipment and then plug it back in. sometimes a good old fashioned reboot will solve the problem, especially on cheap crappy cable modems that like to get hot. generally, time-warner has a terrible reputation - may be worthwhile to switch to something else if that's possible. this is very true, usually that can solve alot of problems, but then again there may not even be an issue with your premise equipment. it might be a system issue with the plant outside. could be a bad tap, maybe the node needs to be swept, or they may have screwed up you modem and account provisioning at the headend(main office).
