http://www.theregister.c.../04/19/valve_steam_hack/For those who may not know, this was posted over in the CTF forums. Edit: should have said, if this turns out to be true... California residents should consider taking legal advice. Ye have that law that requires companies to disclose when credit card details have been compromised, should see if it applies here. Edit: everyone anyway. Everyone should be really careful as regards their bills (or inform whoever CC it is), won't do no harm. MaddoxX is in it for the money by the sounds of it, and if he doesn't get it from Valve i wouldn't be surprised if he turns around and sells them to the next highest bidder (assuming he really has them). Edit: Quote:UPDATE: Valve has issued the following statement regarding the matter, saying that Steam is secure, but some Valve-related hacking did occur and the company is pursuing legal action via 1UP:
"There has been no security breach of Steam. The alleged hacker gained access to a third-party site that Valve uses to manage the commercial partners in its Cyber Café program. This Cyber Café billing system is not connected to Steam. We are working with law enforcement agencies on this matter, and encourage anyone with more information to e-mail us at catch_a_thief@valvesoftware.com."
If this is old news, blow me...yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

Saw this on slashdot the other day. From what I've seen it sounds like Valve/Steam isn't to blame for this except that they trusted a 3rd party who got hacked. Regardless, it does suck a lot. and I hope someone kicks the shit out of the asshole behind it. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

hmm... i wonder are they being held on a "3rd party" server specifically so Valve could not be held responsible for any breach? I still think Valve have something to answer for though... i thought Data protection and crap like that was meant to eliminate 3rd parties getting thier hands on your details. yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

just goes to show that you shouldn't put in CC numbers anytime anywhere on the internets. although there are a ton of fuckers and assholes they are nothing more but script kiddies trying to take over anything they can. just try to keep that CC away from the internet as much as possible. regardless of website security, there are always finding ways around them ahhhh_crap wrote:no, splinter has ethics and whut has emotions

It only effects the cyber cafe partners. "every single one of their customers" is fine.
