PC keeps restarting on its own everytime it gets to the windows logo. Last night it was working just fine until I went to restart it then It wouldn't boot up. Just comes to the windows logo and restarts all over. Booting up from the last known good configuration, booting up in safe mode, booting it up normally..... none of them work they all just make the PC restart each time. ahhhh_crap wrote:no, splinter has ethics and whut has emotions

I would go into the bios and turn off auto restart on error.. This will allow you to see what the actual problem is. You are probably getting a blue screen of death somewhere in the process but the codes on it will tell you whats up. I dont know for certain but it sounds like hardware of some osrt as given up the ghost esp since it errors out before you even have a chance to do anything with it. Once Known as Grumpy... try hitting f8 during the boot up, it should take you to windows start up menu where you should be able to start in safe mode

BAH.. you are contagious splinter.. when i left to look at my bios my boot drive decided to die .. so i go to relive all you are going through over the last few hours and then some.. anyway I now remember where that auto restart thing is.. not in bios after all
is in the system section of control panel underneath startup and recovery. hit the settings button and uncheck the "automatically restart" option. If you go to blue screen AFTER the windows logo this will work and you are probably looking at a bad boy driver.. You will then be able to read what the blue screen actually says and get any codes off of it which will help fix the problem. Maybe a recovery with system restore will fix the deal.
If you are rebooting BEFORE the windows logo then you are looking at the hardware failure but should also be getting some system beeps which will help you diagnose the hardware issue if any.
Anyway I am sorry I disappeared on you by my own system issues have kept me off line for the last couple of hours.. Once Known as Grumpy... Oh hell lets face it... I have and will always be Grumpy

well i cant do that if my PC keeps rebooting then I cant ever get to the desktop to turn that off. I need to know how i can get that system file by going through the hard drive instead of My Computers properties or through the control panel. ahhhh_crap wrote:no, splinter has ethics and whut has emotions

Do you get to the logo though before it reboots.. or does it just beep at cha and then restarts wihtout doing anything else? and have you tried to reboot from a bootable cd such as the windows install cd? If you can boot to that and you really cant get safe mode going than you might get away with a repair install of windows.. This will keep your files intact ad just reinstall the windows system files back on top of themselves.
***Note to the hard core technies out there** Would it be advisable to try and use the recovery console to try and rebuild the disk boot records? I am starting to think that the boot sector may be corrupt but that would be getting in there pretty deep** Once Known as Grumpy... Oh hell lets face it... I have and will always be Grumpy

sometimes i see the windows logo and shortly after it restarts, sometimes i see the blue screen of death literally for a split second giving me absolutely no time to read even a letter or number. Right now im simply on a fresh install of windows on a separate hard drive. only thing is if i try to install windows on the original hard drive its only going to install a 2nd OS of XP and not overwrite the original ones. booting up from the windows CD only gives me the option of installing windows and not boot off it. ahhhh_crap wrote:no, splinter has ethics and whut has emotions
