So, at around 6:30 a.m. today I was sitting at the kitchen table reading the paper. I heard a loud "WHACK!!!!" with undertones of a reverberating thud. I knew what it was immediately.
We have these big windows made of Plexiglass along a hallway. Birds don't see them and think it's an open area so they fly full-speed into the windows at a rate of one or two a year. This morning we met our quota.
I went outside to look for the poor victim. Here he is:
 And here's a closer look. When he smacked the window, his outer body stopped. As you physics majors know, his internal organs kept going and smacked against his outer body and all that momentum ruptured them.
Notice the blood around the beak where he coughed up blood for a few minutes. I had to wait for him to stop moving so he wouldn't blur my picture for you guys. Damn, I should have taken video. Oh well. Enjoy:

that's nothing, we had a full sized swan fly into one of our windows before. amazingly the window didn't break, but the swan sure was left in a much worse state than your little one there. force of momentum and all that. i've no pics tho yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.
