That's the computer Buzz told me to return in June of '06, but like a douche bag, I didn't. I regret it, and you were right, Buzz; I fail at listening.
Well, I can't take it back now. I recently got a monitor for it after about 9 months of it collecting dust in the box, but I can hardly play HL2: Episode One (in a Windows box, with crashes -don't play anymore) and every time I try to run C&C3, the computer gives me some kind of error message and restarts. I suspect I won't be able to run Team Fortress 2 when it comes out.
I think it's time for a new vid card that will run these games. Since it's an ATI Radeon chipset that has a slot for a pci-express card, I thought an ATI card would be best because it shouldn't have any conflicts with a card from the same manufacturer. -Don't know if that's correct at all.
Yes, I'm a douche, but may I ask your advice on an ATI pci-express card that will run these games? I don't understand all the "X" numbers of the ATI cards. My toys are teh sucks.
System requirements below. Help me Obi-Wan Kenobe, you're my only hope . . .
C&C3:
Specifications & FAQ : REQUIRED SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS: · OS: Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit; 64-bit versions of Vista are not supported) · CPU: 2.0 GHz or higher · RAM: 512 MB or more · Hard Drive: 1.4 GB or more of free space · Video: DirectX 9.0c compatible video card. Video card with 64 MB or more memory and one of these chipsets is required: ATI 8500 or greater, NVIDIA GeForce4 or greater. (ATI Radeon 9200 and 9250 PCI, NVIDIA Geforce 4 MX cards not supported.) · Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card NOTE: While you will be able to play C&C3: Tiberium Wars with the specifications above, play experience may improve if you have additional RAM, above the required 512 MB.
Episode One:
Minimum: 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, DirectX 7 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection
Recommended: 2.4 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection
Team Fortress 2:

I would recommend a pci-e x16 card with at least 256MB RAM and 256bit memory or better. 128bit is crap. The vid card you get depends on how much cash you have to spend. You most likely want to get a version of the 8800 since they seem to be the king of the hill at the moment. Anything less will be unable to take full advantage of the rest of the system. I guess the equivalent in ATI would be a 2900 series card. If you can't afford the $300 entrance fee into this level of performance, look into the 7800/7900 nVidia cards. They usually can be found with 256bit memory. Whatever you get, do NOT settle for some crippled 128bit POS. When your sig takes up more space than your entire post, you know you are badass

Don't get CNC3 unless you played it and liked it. If you prefer strategy to unit spamming, you should stay with zero hour or get supcom, mtw2, sc2, or wic.

Buzz built me my machine and I have yet to do any upgrades since i got it almost 2 years ago i think it was now. the thing still runs like a dream and I haven't found a game yet I can't play great. When it comes to comps Buzz is the best. You'd be smart to take his advice and use it.

I doubt the power supply on that HP computer will be able to handle a high end video card. It's possible it might since the average user doesn't need a PSU with more than 380W, but HP doesn't put in PSU's with expansion in mind,
Most likely you'll have to get a new power supply along with that video card. Also another gig of ram would help a lot in your gaming.
It's kinda early and I'll check back later when im fully awake.

Buzz comes through! To Buzz you listen. You know, judging from other posts, I think I should just bite the bullet and build a whole new damn machine around a vid card instead of trying to put Bandaids on the HP and do stuff like get new power supplies. And yes, I think it will need a new power supply for another Benjamin. So, vid card w/1GB memory, mother board with P4(4GHz???), fast RAM/2 GB, fast HD, fast DVD drive, case with decent power supply, maybe a quiet fan. Uh, ethernet card. I have a mouse and keyboard lying around. I have like three machines sitting downstairs, but they are at least a couple of years old. Parts? How does that grab ya? Did I get it right? I would much rather have a gaming laptop, but I'll bet the cost is twice that of a desktop. And Lead, I already own C&C3 for like three or four months now. Just haven't been able to play it. It sucks. I am sad now. You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit." It's kinda early and I'll check back later when im fully awake. Screw this. I'm going to get that card and have them overnight it to me in time for the official release of TF2. And another gig of memory. That would be this card: EVGA 256-P2-N765-AR GeForce 8600GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

- GeForce 8800GTS
- 320MB GDDR3
- PCI Express x16
- $279
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133193Or this one:

- 320MB GDDR3
- PCI Express x16
- $294
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130038Or this one:
- GeForce 8800GTS
- 320MB GDDR3
- PCI Express x16
- $279 after rebate
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150173Just say the word and I will order low end or high. I'm ready to commit to you baby. You should be more like Cantrip. Since your getting an EVGA, remember to register it with the company so that if anything happens to the card, anything at all, they replace it with a new one or the equal to it if they no longer make that particular card anymore.

Yeah, I haven't done that yet.. Also, I don't know if this is just all 8800GTS, but the one I have is gigantic. It will render your other PCI slots inaccessible and probably cover your SATA and IDE sockets (though they are still usable, just hard to get to for big hands).
