So I had purchased two sticks of memory, same as the two that are in two of the four slots on the MOBO. I disconnected the hard drive to install them and reconnected it. When I powered it up, the fans came on for the power supply, for the graphics card and the chip fan. The buttons lighted up, however, it was beeping at me. It would beeeeeep, then one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, three-one-thousand, then beeeeeep again. I took out the memory and started it up again and it did the same thing. Did I kill the machine? The power cable to the HD was in the way. I disconnected it, put the sticks in, and reconnected it. Then did the same in reverse to remove the two new sticks. Still did it. i remember having a similar problem awhile back with my RAM, turns out the solution was just pulling out the ram and put it back in, actually worked In an hour of Darkness a blind man is the best guide. In an age of Insanity look to the madman to lead the way.

Some mobo's have a certain jumper set on them defining weather or not to use all 4 slots on it or just 2 of them. By putting another 2 sticks into it on top of the 2 you already had in there, regardless if the ram is the exact same, its still a mobo issue. A lot of times theres a bios setting to unlock all 4 memory modules for the mobo so you might also try looking in there. On other boards they have a fail safe system built right into the board so that if something goes wrong with anything on the board that it flips a form of circuit breaker on the board and it just simply needs to be reset. That about rounds out most of the issues with the system beeping on startup without it actually getting any further than DOS. In order to really help out any more I'd have to know the exact make and model of the mobo to tell you what you can do to it to make it work again. It may simply be just a loose connector or something, maybe your PSU won't support the extra drain on it from the extra sticks, or maybe it just doesn't like you anymore. LoL

Okay, I had to take out the graphics card to get at the little snap lever that released the existing ram. I pulled out both remaining sticks, reseated them and reseated the graphics card. Guys at Fry's said that sometimes the MOBO doesn't like different brands of memory, but I could return them. Suggested I get two two-gig sticks instead. Whatever, it works, and I can play now.
