We're at capacity with our box. If we want to host anything further we need to upgrade. If we upgrade we change IP's... the other option is to get a second identical server but that will cost another $240 as opposed to upgrading which will cost us a total of $310. So it's the choice of $310/month vs $480/month... but we'll need to switch IPs. You decide.

is switching IPs really that big of a deal? if we get an identical server doesn't that mean we can host EVEN MORE TF2 servers? Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

Bah. Shouldn't do anything that would confuse people. Too many servers out there for them to join instead. If we're not there and they haven't heard of a switch in IP addresses, they're going to take their business elsewhere. It would suck to go back to the days when I would sit in our empty servers, when we got them back, and just wait for players, who never materialized. regulars will be able to refind the tempest servers and readd it to favorites. if thats who you're worried about pissing off then i wouldn't be. if they're not complete morons then they'll get the point to update their favorites. post like a 5 day motd telling them of the switch and upgrade and how sweet the tempest is gunna be. any "regular" who would have the tempest as a fav would be playing within 5 days. i HIGHLY DOUBT they would be confused by that. and i dont think we need to worry about the rest of the people cuz they search for us and stumble in like they usually do. I think the 6 people who voted not to change are lazy assholes. IF WE UPGRADE WE CAN HAVE SO MUCH MORE (hopefully, idk anything really....). update your favorites. prob solved.
Cantrip: WHO WOULD WE CONFUSE? the vast majority of our users are random searchers. would switching the ip affect any of these people? no.... and the regulars, they will find us again. if i don't find our svr immediately, first thing i'd do is run a srch with full svrs and i'd prolly stumble across the 2fort tempest and be like "OMG! there it is... why isnt it in my favs? oh well... resave it to favs then. WOW lets get to the fun!" People were given brains to be used. Don't underestimate our users' intellects.
our svrs aren't just going to lose popularity cuz we switch ips, if anything they will get more popular. they will have more people tasting the tempest flavor. A lot of people who play the svr like how a lot of regulars are so regular and i feel this forum has brought a lot of people who wouldn't otherwise know eachother together and that spills onto the server interactions we make which gives noobs, and well anyone rly, a comfortable feeling. Like were all friends here. if all the people on here keep playing, which they surely will, the servers will keep on blowing up.
ONE QUESTION THO: how will our scores be affected? (i know its shallow but someone had to ask)

Agree with Gnar. TF2 is very popular and I don't think changing IP's would impact things right now. The regulars with half a brain would find us. In the long run though it would be to our advantage to have the flexibility to be able to host more shiz. You never know what mods for TF2 people will come up with once the novelty of TF2 has worn off (a year or two). Switching IP's then would be much more problematic becuase there is less interest in the game. I say switch now. We can all pitch in and make up the difference. {pDs}BelligerentPimp wrote:
