Well im going to be getting new RAM soon, and dont want to be ripped off even more. On the RAM description it says CL 4-4-4-15, yet the one which is a whole £5 cheaper says CL 5-5-5-15, What does this mean, and which is better, also one says " *Vista* " in the name which is confusing me a bit about compatability. Also there is another product there which is £50 more expensive with the same spec as these two, is it just a rip-off, or is this better?

Well first off, the platinum memory is better just because it has the better timings than the other.  Secondly, what kind of mobo are you putting them into, you do know that there are a lot of mobo's out there that are pretty picky when it comes down to the memory they like.  Give me the make/model of your mobo and I'll take it from their as far as memory is concerned.  And yes, I realize that you have to pay by the £ over there.

Ok, these are all the different types of ram your mobo recommends to use by Gigabyte.

those #s are the timings. lower means faster. I haven't seen recent benchmarks, but generally you are only talking about a few % difference in performance. where the better timings come in handy though is that they indicate higher quality chips, if you are overclocking you can often increase the timing (e.g. go from CL4 to CL5) in order to hit a higher bus. So super abstracted: RAM1 may be able to hit 100 at CL4 and RAM2 can hit 100 at CL5, but if you bump RAM1 up to CL5 you might be able to hit 125. Unless you are overclocking, or thing a few % performance are worth the money, going with the slower RAM will be fine.

Do you mean from CL5 to CL4? Not the other way around? Right?

If you want the best bang for your buck then I suggest locating a set of these to suite you're needs.  Their extremely fast gaming memory for Over Clockers at a price anyone can afford.  When it comes down to it, if your really want whats best for your system then get these, the lifetime warranty doesn't hurt either.

Nope, I mean taking ram that is cas4 and telling it to run at cas5 so that it is more stable for overclocking. You can go the other way too and run ram with tighter timings than it is rated for, but generally slower timings for higher bus and/or CPU speed is a better tradeoff in performance gained, and if you are even able to run your ram stable at latencies lower than what it is rated for the odds are you won't be able to OC much (if at all).

If you actually take the time to overclock your RAM you have way too much time on your hands.

In other news, get a new mobo, DDR3, problem solved.

Me personally I don't think that as of right now ddr3 isn't really worth the price and a new MoBo My 2 gb's of dual channel corsair ram are CAS 3 and it is plenty fast enough for what I use it for. If you had a higher end server I could see where four GB's of ddr3 would come in handy.

Currently DDR3 is out of my price range.
