So yeah, there's a sale at Fry's Electronics tomorrow for the EVGA 8600 GT 512MB GDDR2 128-bit DirectX 10 vid card for $99. There's a $10 rebate so it evens out to $89 and tax. Here's a description from Newegg.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130292 I know that the (EVGA and XFX manufactured) 8600 GT GDDR3 version, that's GDDR ( three ), is $129 after rebate at NEWEGG.COM.
The Fry's ad has a product number that is listed on the Fry's website as 5410969. However, the picture in the newspaper has a photo of the GDDR3 version - I can tell because of the Molex connector on the upper right of the card in the photo:

Even if it isn't the GDDR3 in the picture, for the end price of $89, is the GDDR2 card worth it?
Doors open at 7 a.m. PST tomorrow, Wednesday December 26. So post now rather than later. This is going into a traveling rig, confined space, lesser components.
I know it's not the 8800 GT that came out at the end of October. It's not GDDR3 or 256-bit like the 8800, but then again, it doesn't have the $270 price tag of the 8800 anywhere you look. You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit." Xylicon: "I'm about to deliver my [Richard] in your face for posting that stupid shit. " WDF?: "He keeps reaming me... night after night... I'm rather sore." GivePeaceAChance: "OMG MY NIPS ARE HARD" llenta: "cantrip, you fail!!!" Filliam H. Muffman: "i'm on top of dick"

I'd say get 4 of them, 2 for you, 2 for me and we'll all be happy. Otherwise, the GDDR2 and GDDR3 have almost the same bench tests to it doesn't really matter as to what performance gains you will get from one to the other. I'd say go for it and get at least two cards if you mobo and psu can support them. If not, oh well, at least you still have a DX10 card that has one hell of a good warranty, just remember to register it with EVGA within the first 30 days you own it or they won't support their warranty.
