EVE ONLINE PUTS THE MMO IN STEAM
Launching With 21-Day Free Trial and Steam Special Price for Full Game

Bellevue, Washington and Reykjavik, Iceland - January 22, 2008 - EVE Online, the award winning massively multiplayer online (MMO) game from CCP, is coming to Steam, a leading platform for the delivery and management of PC games and digital content with over 13 million accounts worldwide.

To celebrate the launch of Steam's first massively multiplayer online game offering, a special 21-day trial period for EVE will be available, free of charge, to all Steam gamers. Steam gamers will also save $5 off their first full month of EVE Online.

"Launching EVE on Steam means the addition of another fantastic PC game and the introduction of MMOs on Steam," said Jason Holtman, director of business development at Valve. "The team at CCP continues to expand EVE's universe and gameplay for the legions logging in to play each month, just as we continue to expand Steam's consumer and developer features."

EVE Online is a leader in online gaming technology, hosting hundreds of thousands of players in the same persistent universe. The latest EVE Online expansions, which are always free for players, introduces a graphic update of gargantuan proportions and a host of new gameplay features. Every ship, station and stargate is rendered in an amazing splendor of spacefaring sights.

"We are immensely excited and honored that EVE Online will be the first MMO on Steam," said Magnus Bergsson, VP of Sales at CCP. "Steam has been the leading online distribution platform for a long time and home to some of the most dedicated gamers around, so we couldn't think of a better fit for EVE Online."

Times mentioned in the above post are stated in WHUT time... which is not the time normal humans are accustomed. Whut time is relative. Today is defined as whenever Whut happens to get a bug up his ass and thinks he is gotten sorta of close to being in the mood. The actual real life timeframe for these occurences is unknown at this time. Sometimes it happens more than once in a day and during other periods it would be more like for hell to freeze over than anything actuallly getting done. Currently we are in a time frame where it would seem that there would be more of a chance of Dragon getting a girlfriend as far fetched as that might be than there would be of anything actually happening here.

EVE Online is coming to Steam
reported by: CCP Wrangler | 2008.01.23 17:58:40

Since the press release about EVE Online coming to Steam a few questions have popped up and we thought we should let everyone know a few more details .
 • EVE Online is not on Steam yet, it will be available there in the very near future.
 • Steam will be selling CD Keys only. This means you can buy a new account on Steam, but not pay subscription.
 • Anyone on a trial can take advantage of this offer and can upgrade their trial account with the CD Keys Steam will be selling.
 • Anyone can also get a Steam account and take advantage of the 21 day trial offered by Steam.
 • Patches will be deployed as usual and not through Steam, no one is required to sign up to EVE Online through Steam.

What was the real point of them making this move?

Isn't the game dying?

The game isn't dieing, just the older players are leaving as 3 times the amount of new players come. The point of this move is to get more customers. This is purely marketing. I am an eve junkie, and a steam junkie so I figured I would pass this along.

Also, Trinity expansion just came out 1 month ago, many many new ships, new graphics and new skill sets. Its different then it was even 1 year ago with added carrier paths in the game. In this game, no matter your in game age, you can compete with and win against someone thats been playing since beta 4 years ago even if your character is just 1 week old.
