Cloverfield was supposedly filmed with a little handheld camera like you'd get at wal-mart, however it was really filmed by a top of the line sony camera, this one :  $ 115,000 is about what it would cost you, also they claimed it used a SD card? FALSE!  That's not quite the case, since such a puny card could never write an uncompressed 4:4:4 (full color space) image in real time. Instead, filmmakers probably used Sony's SRW-1, which can hook directly to the camera to allow both easy shooting and recording speeds of 110MB/sec (versus an SD card's 20MB/sec). So Cloverfield and film makers lied to us, oh boy was I gullible for believing it in the first place

Gizmodo, and they used that little one a little I think but the majority of filming was done with the sony
