.
So, someone gave me a book entitled Linux in a Nutshell:

AMAZON.COM LINK TO LINUX IN A NUTSHELL

I think the motivation behind the gift is my most recent OCD project, the details of which I will bore you all with later, if at all.

I currently am working on a project that involves or may involve the following distros: Ubuntu, Edubuntu, Fluxubuntu, Damn Small Linux and Puppy Linux.  But mostly Puppy Linux because it seems to work the best with older or damaged systems, or systems with limited resources.

I am not a programmer.  I took Basic in high school and Fortran in college before I wised up and got into a more female target-rich environment major.  Cock over code, I always say.

My question for you all in the know is do I really want to keep this book or should I exchange it for another given the distros I am working with above? And if so, which do you recommend?

.
You should be more like Cantrip.

Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ."
GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit."
Xylicon: "I'm about to deliver my [Richard] in your face for posting that stupid shit. "
WDF?: "He keeps reaming me... night after night... I'm rather sore."
GivePeaceAChance: "OMG MY NIPS ARE HARD"
llenta: "cantrip, you fail!!!"
Filliam H. Muffman: "i'm on top of dick"

Well it depends on what exactly you are doing with this computer. And on the book, it could be useful if you need to know your way around the terminal, like say learn some sudo commands or something. But linux is basically linux that book should apply to all flavors.

And I use Kubuntu when I am running linux, but I just now learned about this "Fluxubuntu", and it seems like a nice functional OS although DSL and Puppy Linux are smaller. And for a normal non-technical savvy person I would use either Ubuntu or Kubuntu, seeing as they are fully functional and are pretty easy to use.

For portability and size DSL can't be beat, but for the requirements to run it DSL wins again at needing only 8mb of RAM. and it needs a processor too but I don't want to google, i think it needs a i486

And I am sorry Cantrip that I didn't find this earlier, it is a 2.1 MB linux recovery system that fits on about anything, though it looks like it has issues with XP and Vista, but it's the thought that counts right? Right? Right...
