every game i have purchased that uses steam is listed as "pre-load complete" this is bullshit cause i bought the games and it says i can access them unless i buy them. I tried to activate the games with the CD-keys and it say thier already in use. And ive tried rebooting them.

The thing with multiple game keys is that if you dont activate them on your account that you already have, then your starting a NEW account for every key. That could be where the preload problem is happening.

Go to your steam folder and where it says your account name, look to see if theres another account name too.

WARNING!
Times mentioned in the above post are stated in WHUT time... which is not the time normal humans are accustomed. Whut time is relative. Today is defined as whenever Whut happens to get a bug up his ass and thinks he is gotten sorta of close to being in the mood. The actual real life timeframe for these occurences is unknown at this time. Sometimes it happens more than once in a day and during other periods it would be more like for hell to freeze over than anything actuallly getting done. Currently we are in a time frame where it would seem that there would be more of a chance of Dragon getting a girlfriend as far fetched as that might be than there would be of anything actually happening here.

yeah, bloodhands is right.  if it says preload is complete and the cd key is entered, it was loaded on another steam acount.  my father has his own steam acount, and i logged into it from my computer here where i live and bought Episode 1 for him.  then when i load up my acount, it says Episode 1 is preloaded.  i obviously can't play it unless i'm in his acount, so this sounds exactly like your situation.

have you tried logging out of steam and then logging back in? I had to do this once for an issue similiar to yours.

My problem was solved, sort of, by the next Steam update.  Looks like that update ate your machine.  Maybe the next update will fix your machine . . . and screw up mine again.  Steam sucks.

You should be more like Cantrip.

One of my friends had this happen to him, It was because his CD key was already used. Someone like went on the internet and stole it somehow, I forget

Sounds like to me your key has been hijacked.  That happened to me last summer, I had a lame password and one day my games were "preload complete." I was like whuuu????!  3 weeks later I called steam and they said I am currently logged in at a differant machine which I wasnt.  They then reset it and had me create a new password.  I really recommend alpha numeric passwords.  I was the one that said "nah, itll never happen to me, Nobody wants a user account that says Saddamizer"  Well sure enough...

Did you have spyware on your machine? If so do you remember what any of it was? I've heard reports of spyware designed to harvest Steam accounts but have never seen it actually happen - don't know how else people would be getting the account info though unless they have physical access to your machine?
