I just picked up...

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128014

and

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103242

seemed like very good values...although I'm kinda out of the loop when it comes to hardware.

I also picked this up to replace a year old AGP card...

My question is...since its been almost 2 years since I built this computer, what do I need to know about dual core processors before I plug n play?

it's ok. all computer components have clearly dotted lines along which you can cut* to make smaller.

I always hit up Tomshardware.com   a few months before iwant to build to research.  Thier CPU charts and graphic card charts are good.  They also have good reviews of hardware and recommended overclock settings.

Should have gone with this
AMD Athlon X2 5000+ Black Edition

It has an unlocked multiplier, so you can easily get it up to 3.2 Ghz (6400+ standard) without raising the voltage. Good cooling is required.

You can't argue with fact: AMD is way the fuck behind in procs than Intel for price:performance ratio.
I read ALL your private messages.
