I do AMD and stopped at the Dual-Core chips. No need to go beyond that for me, and I have three of them, one which is waiting for a hand-built case. I have two EVGA 8600GT cards, one with DDR2 memory and the other DDR3. No problems with either. You can get away with any card really, but I have had zero problems with the DDR3 version. I also have an FX? Alphadog 8800GT - not EVGA. Uhg. The damn drivers conflict with something in Windows XP that makes me crash. Have not crashed once with the EVGA lesser-powered cards. I would suggest you go with EVGA. They are a classy company. One of our members, can't remember who now, didn't register his card and it went beyond the warranty registration period. They gave him a new card anyway. Now that is customer loyalty. Wait for Buzz to chime in, then do exactly as he says. I learned that to my detriment the hard way when I didn't. You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit." Xylicon: "I'm about to deliver my [Richard] in your face for posting that stupid shit. " WDF?: "He keeps reaming me... night after night... I'm rather sore." GivePeaceAChance: "OMG MY NIPS ARE HARD" llenta: "cantrip, you fail!!!" Filliam H. Muffman: "i'm on top of dick"

You lost me at "No AMD". =P I've been AMD-only since the K6 11 years ago.

I have never seen an Intel CPU break... ever. I have seen many dead AMDs. That alone is enough for me not to get one. aside from that, anyone who tries to sell me a "gaming processor" is a fuckwad. Games need video processors much more than big expensive CPUs. TEAM APARTMENT: No one rocks quite as hard as we do. Believe me, I know quite a bit about building computers and the various components. I do not claim to know everything, but I have been around the block once or twice. I have never had any issues with an AMD processor. I have had issues with every other component of a system with either failures, incompatablities, defective products, etc. While right now might not look good for AMD, NOT buying their product makes it worse, not better. AMD is not a "gaming" processor per say, but it is a good product. *sigh* Here is what I tell everybody looking to upgrade: 1. How much are you looking to spend? 2. What will you be doing with the computer? 3. What are your brand preferences? ...and it drops off from there. Being in the computer service world and having built many a machine, I always have the user answer those first before recommendations are made. No sense suggesting the god-box when they have a peon budget. I also tend to NOT like making recommendations when people that already have the intarweb accessable and know what google is ask in the manner shignog did. Seriously, you can not find and read reviews from reputible sites instead of hearsay from unknowns? How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

What about working 2 jobs do you not understand? after working a job if i dont have to do the other job i have to watch my daughter. But there are 2-3 people who know what they are talking about and was waiting for them the last 3 amd computers i had all racpped out either the mb died or the cpu or both im sticking with intel i can afford intel as well now. Im sure someone will come around that knows about the new 45 cpus and motherboards and ram and stuff i dont have time to do much anymore i get to check the clan site here about once a week for a few mins.
