I'm looking to do a little heavy maintenance on my computer, and I'm pretty sure i'll need to clean some crap out of my registry and/or fix some stuff up. So, does anyone know a good registry cleaner that is cheap (read: free) and reliable? I'm always a bit pensive about mucking around with it, and I'd prefer not to go blindly into an area that could have sever consequences.

Do they really make much difference? As far as I know, the computer doesn't acess old unused regeisterys anyway and not like they consist of much more than a bit of text

my understanding holds that the registry is like a box of index cards. If there are more cards, there's more stuff to sort through for it to find what it needs to do. it's easier if there are fewer cards.
