Quite sad when you really think about it... lives cut short, just because of some war... i mean, some look pretty young still. x.x

Yeah thats what I thought when we first lost them. Now that I have a family I look at the ages again and see sons and daughters without moms and dads also.
Hug em if you got em.

I read that a lot of these men died to a 'refueling tanker crash'. Just out of curiousity, what were the circumstances of this accident ?

The cause is still not known.
It could have been the lack of night vision on the aircraft combined with the dusk landing time. Also KC 130 came into service in 1962 so equipment malfunction has never been ruled out.
On a lighter note some funny times from the front around that date.
Camel attack?
Yes, that's what Lance Corporal Jesse Mendoza and his unit wrote, half seriously and half jokingly, on the calendar in their "fighting hole" on the fringe of their base in southern Afghanistan.
"It was a pretty crazy night," Mendoza recalled.
"I had my NVGs (night vision goggles) on and I saw a big old camel running in the compound," the 20-year-old from Fresno, a hint of a grin appearing through the opening of his black balaclava.
The beast's romp caused such a stir that several Marines poured a torrent of gunfire at it. But they found neither hide nor hair of it later, either because they missed or because small arms were not enough to bring it down.

Individuals who died in service to others. Time to bring the rest home to their families.
