hey all, i have a few questions for you webmasters and gurus out there. This is my website. basically its just an online portfolio that ive kept running over the years to show people who are interested in my work. while it hasnt been updated in a while, ive been getting the itch to do so recently, and now i think that time has come. if you look closely, youll notice that the site is basic html (with a teensy bit of CSS), with embedded i-frames. yes, you read that right, i-frames. sad and pathetic, no? so here's the help i need. i am looking for ways to modernize my site, and get rid of the i-frames. i'd liek to make my main content and navigation "windows" more scalable so that people can go through my galleries and view news (maybe a blog area?) easier. i would also like to learn how to streamline the galleries themselves. one thing that i have been looking for is the little flash (is it flash?) thingy where people click an image and a layer pops up with the image, without loading to a new page or anything. something liek that, or having the full image pre-loaded or something. i jsut dont want to have to force a page load or a new window on anyone. anyway, im not looking for anyone to flat out code this for me, im jsut looking for some tutorials or something. although, any help would be appreciated :P sooooo....help plz? It bothers me that everything is on the far right, should be aligned top left like everybody else. As for adding certain apps to the website, you might just be able to buy a module out there for pretty cheap that does what you're looking for. get your ass to mars

i found a script to make the gallery, called lightbox, so that should be taken care of now. still trying to find some tutorial on CSS or javascript or whatever the crap is gonna help my break out of frames. and to hell with left aligned, why should i bind myself to some aesthetic just because people arent open to moving out of it? it is a personal site after all, my own area to play around with art on the internet. I understand your feelings on keeping everything to the right in mind as a personal choice in rebellion against sheep-aesthetics, but you may want to consider the fact that the only people who look to the right first are Arab-readers and ancient asian-text scholars. For everyone else, we look to the left first, and the subtle shift from left to right is actually a deterrent against wanting to see the rest. Not a large one mind you, but maybe large enough. I'd personally want my site to be appealing in every aspect were I trying to show off a portfolio and/or gain potential customers. Also, if you're really trying to show off your work to potential customers, you may wish to edit/remove your blog entry. silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... alright, let me make this clear. this site is just a storehouse for some of my work online. it is in essence a digital playground dating back 8 years when i was actually aspiring to be a web designer. since then, it is just a housing for whatever design ideas i can generate, nothing more. so can't we just leave the design and content alone? i came here looking for help in learning some new stuff, not a critique. if you really want to grouse about my design choices or aesthetics, either do it with yourself, or just send me an email or something. preferably the former. can we go back to helping me find some good CSS tutorials? i've found a bunch, but i'd like to know if anyone here has ones they trust or <3 more than anything else. i'd rather have a recommendation than just wander around the net blindly. i haven;t found a good one stop shop for CSS tbh. i'd say start with w3schools.com for the basics at least, then perform google searches for different layouts and more spefic features like a drop down menu or that. CSS is easy to learn, but damn hard to master because you can need quite a few hacks to get your site working cross browser yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.
