Quote:The German version of The Orange Box is set to a low violence mode in order to comply with German laws prohibiting the sale of violent video games. Blood effects are replaced by sparks and bullet wounds are replaced with dents as if the characters were metal robots. Additionally, instead of body parts being scattered after a player's character is blown apart, various items such as hamburgers, coils, rubber ducks, and Chattery Teeth appear. Characters from different classes leave different items and different ratios of these items when killed by explosives. In the Half-Life games, bodies fade away after the death of non-player characters and the blood has been altered to a grey color.
This is the sort of thing that is going to end up happening here, blaming video games for their fail at controlling the increase in violent crimes.
EDIT:
Quote:Through new laws the Chinese government has said it plans to restrict gamers to three hours of consecutive play, using a “fatigue technique” in games. Children and teenagers are strongly encouraged to play online games no more than 3 hours per day through this method. After 3 hours their character abilities will be limited. Gamers who spend more than five hours will have the abilities of their in-game character severely limited. Players will be forced to take a five-hour break before they can return to a game with the character back to full capacity. In some cases further playing is locked down through their IP identification number or account with the online game vendor. The operators face little choice as they need government approval to offer online gaming
Quote:Around the 1990s, Brazil did not have a video game rating system, such as ESRB, but some games such as Carmageddon, Postal and Grand Theft Auto were banned in the whole Brazilian territory via juridical decision. Due to a gunman's rampage through a movie theatre in Brazil, Duke Nukem 3D was also banned in that country along with Quake, Doom and several other violent first-person shooters. The Brazil rampage (named Mateus da Costa Meira) was allegedly inspired by Duke Nukem 3D's opening level "Hollywood Holocaust" (Episode 1, Mission 1), where a firefight with aliens takes place inside a cinema. Despite this ban, Duke Nukem 3D was subsequently being published in a computer magazine (Revista Senha), and other titles such as Quake and Doom are still sold openly in Brazil. That's no fun. I enjoy seeing my appendix after I die.
The chattering teeth thing might not be too bad.
Seriously, though. Germany is weird. I love most things German, including beer and food, but that law is just an oddity.
On a side note, many of my friends in Germany often ask me to send them Peanut Butter. I can't imagine life without PB. Belligerent Pimp wrote: The Man Society just suspended my man card for a week for getting rickrolled by Mrs. Mary Midwestern Housewife.

I bet they think you are an angel of mercy when they get your care packages. Probably a lot like Whut feels when he gets a Cantrip care package.

It doesn't matter if you replace blood with sparks and dents. They don't pay attention to the fact that people are still trying to kill other people. Violence is violence whether it looks like a shitty action movie, or you get battle wounds in Troy. Seriously! Is there any way we can implement this on the servers, like with the birthday mod? I would love to have people explode into hamburgers and rubber ducks to mix things up on occasion! HolyJaw wrote:In the end, everything Endyss said.

To each country its own. What I don't understand is the negative bias towards violent videogames in comparison to violent movies. When the original Manhunt came out, people were shitting all over it like it was the plague. That same year, Kate Beckinsdale was gutting random people into pulp and Halle Berry was bashing policemen's skulls in theatres around the globe without the media turning an eye. It's almost saddening. At least we all know who's responsible: endyss wrote:

We must bind together to form some kind of superburger in order to keep ourselves at bay from this travesty. Chase: the only refuge i have from my mom is when i go to my gf's Me: I have no gf, just palmela handerson Chase: Well at least you aren't a double amputee.

1) a lawsuit CLEARLY needs to be filed by the joint parties Mayor McCheese and The Macdaddy James Big Mac for infringement upon the burger domain of tf2.
2) The violence a youngster of burger persasion could witness while playing this "german" copy of tf2 is simply atrocious to contemplate. Truly the emotional rape that is occuring to those of a burgerphilic lifestyle is an event, no, a holocaust that cannot be allowed to continue. I simply hope that one amongst us can leverage some form of force within the united nation body that will alow us to truly end such a tragedy before even worse e.g. hot dog explosions, could occur.
Failing this we really need to beat someone over the head with a wet sock.

You couldn't be more right. Theres controversy in the UK over "Photo Realistic Violence", but like you said, theres none about these films. Quote:Posting related image due to my inability to formulate an intelligent response. BlooDz wrote:i cant type good im stupid
