Just kidding. (What a pathetic title card.)
I almost feel like I have a compulsive need to have a really, really long post about crap only 5 people are probably ever going to read. This is going to be a direct comparison between the premier two cities in the Southern Coast/Pacific Northwest. All observations (and misconceptions) are based on my personal experiences in both cities. Simply put, most points takes the win. It's as non-biased as myself (or anyone without a Master's Degree in lying) will ever make. I'm also going to try and keep the big words down as much as possible . Shall we begin?
Shit to do if you like SceneryWinner: VancouverSeattle has quite a bit of eye-candy to go around. Both the skyline as seen from the panoramic views from the Space Needle as well as the backdrop of the Coast Mountains from Seattle's surrounding hillside make prime real estate for those who enjoy kicking back to watch the scenery. Vancouver's world-renouned for having a breathtaking skyline, world-class resorts, insane architecture and a well known natural haven called Stanley Park that makes New York's Central Park look like a couple of trees outside the local opium dens. This one's a no-brainer. (Can't touch this.) Shit to do if you like Cruising (in a car) Winner: SeattleWith the exception of White Rock, every area in and around Vancouver is filled with drunken shitwads and 14 year olds that have no right to drive at all. Getting cut off is so commonplace that if you honk back people give you the "you're overreacting, dumbass" look. It's like the whole city's population has been infested with complete Honda-driving modern-day rednecks mingled in among the Porsches whose only goal is to get across town as slowly and in the most retarded manner possible. The silver lining to all the idiocy, White Rock, was recently wiped clean of all remaining boardwalk space by Mother Nature. During all my times in Seattle, I have yet to see a single accident. Also, you'll see way more motorcycles down there then in Vancouver. No wonder I drive a 2004 Chevy Silverado. Nice truck. It costs $93 to fill up a full tank of gas south of the 49th Parallel. On the Canada side it costs a ridickulous $130. I blame the carbon tax. Seattle wins this match-up by 1.6 kilometres. (How nice?) Shit to do if you like Animals Winner: Seattle
No, I'm not talking about furries. The city with the best wildlife can be found in a simple mathematical explanation. Vancouver has a shitty zoo and an amazing aquarium. Seattle has an amazing zoo and an almost-half-decent aquarium. Seattle wins by majority. On a side note, the new penguin exhibits are fantastic. Aren't they cute? (Happy penguins. Happy happy happy.) Shit to do if you like Museums Winner: Seattle
Does anyone still liek museums? Anyone? Oh well. Vancouver has a Haida art museum. That's about it. Compare it to that place outside the Boeing factory with the 1st 747 built and the only surviving D-21 in the world. Oh, and there's some artsy-fartsy stuff downtown for high-society types, but I didn't go inside because apparently I don't have "class". So they say. Ahh, whatever. (That thing is basically jet porn.) Shit to do if you like Your Lungs Winner: Vancouver
On the way down I-5 to Seattle, I noticed something funneh. About 20 minutes North of city centre everything just started getting nasty. Everything smelled like spray paint, or fertilizer or something. I am completely serious. I don't want to know what it was. Yecch, I'm sure most Americans are used to the smell of raw ass in their air supply but whatever. Also, I asked a British tourist what she thought of the environment here and apperently, it isn't toxic. We're good!
(I couldn't find any pictures from Seattle to represent nasty air, so here's one from the folks in Budapest.) Shit to do if you like TelevisionTieBasically the same channels in both cities, so this goes down to the news anchors. The guys at Global BC are relatively young and deliver the news with equal parts half-smiling seriousness and failed attempts at humor. At Komo, everyone looks like tomorrow's going to be their deathday and they're all seeming to be trying to cut to weather in the quickest time possible so they can get out of the studio and live normal lives.
(Bill O'rly is the real winner in this battle.) Shit to do if you like Radio
Winner: Seattle
Yeah, I know. "How'd you figure out this one?" Meet Can-Con. Can-Con is a government legislation that requires ALL Canadiaian radio stations to play a Canadian-made song, which is federally required to be over 90 seconds long, at certain times during their programming. The Gov't says that it's "to prevent our cultural achievements from being overtaken" or some BS like that. The sad thing is, there aren't that many Canadian bands that get airtime. 95% of the time the Can-Con call goes out, it's either going to be a Rush song or a Nickelback song. There's only so much Rush you can take before something inside your brain snaps and you can't feel your eardrums. Besides, Seattle has the best imaginary radio show. (Fraizor approves.) Shit to do if you like Coffee Winner: Vancouver. Yeah, Vancouver.WHAT!?!?! Vancouver won!?!?!?!1!! SEATTLE IS COFFEE CAPITAL OF TEH WORLD!?!?!?! WTF CIAO YOU SUCK!!
Well, Fuck You!I went to a crapload of coffee shoppes around the Market area and yeah, they were good. Good. That's it. Some of the places on Commercial Drive and Coal Harbour in Vancouver will smash you. It's just that damn awesome. If anyone wants to recommend a Seattle-area coffee shop that you think will change my mind, by all means post it right now. There's probably some place I've never been to that will probably hold Seattle's reputation. But so far, out of all the times I've been there, no mortal coffee has ever beaten the Commercial Drive Espresso ™.
(The Drive wins. If you don't think so, prove it.) Shit to do if you like Video Games (and other high-tech stuff) TieYou can't go wrong either way. Hollywood North is the home of Rockstar Vancouver (the people who made Bully), EA/Black Box (Tiger Woodz n Need 4 Speed yo), Radical Entertainment (Prototype!), Nintendo Canada (who probably made lots of games but I can't think of any worth mentioning), and Relic (Warhammer and Homeworld). Seattle has Valve and Microsoft, and quite a number of other development studios. Gaming hardware and datacenters are easy to find in both areas, and generally if you're into the high-tech field the West Coast is the place to be. (Yay!)
Finally, Shit to do if you like Fun
Winner: Seattle
SixFlags Seattle has some pretty nice roller coasters (nothing special compared to California but still), SeaFair has boats and stuff for the family, the beer's cheap, the shooting ranges are legal, the sports teams don't suck, and by the end of the day you leave with a smile and the satisfaction of viewing a unique, world class city. Vancouver's a wonderous place to live in, with the high-energy livestyle of an urban area, but with relaxation and comfort availible at hand a matter of blocks away. You can't go wrong with either city. Enjoy.

I sawded the pictures. They were nice. What is that big needle/plate thing at the end? You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit." Xylicon: "I'm about to deliver my [Richard] in your face for posting that stupid shit. " WDF?: "He keeps reaming me... night after night... I'm rather sore." GivePeaceAChance: "OMG MY NIPS ARE HARD" llenta: "cantrip, you fail!!!" Filliam H. Muffman: "i'm on top of dick"
