So my Steam's completely messed.

It started a few days ago when my desktop background became this "you have spyware" warning wallpaper. I know it wasn't a legit antispyware. With Sam's help I managed to get rid of it.

But somehow all my internet connection stuff is cut off.

1. Steam can't update.
2. Any anti-spyware websites...i.e. Spybot Search & Destroy cannot be downloaded.
3. My windows task manager doesn't appear.
4. Anytime I try to access a webpage it directs me to some bogus search engine that's filled with ads.
5. Google is hijacked.

Short of formating I don't see any solution. Anyone here an anti-spyware expert or know of any tailored executables that can solve this problem? This is really frustrating as it messes with everyday mult-tasking--delays just maximizing windows and such. Argggg

My oldest daughter has the same problem on her computer.  We were going to replace it anyways, so when I get around to getting the new comp., I'll just reformat the drive before giving it to my youngest. Sorry no help.

Can you get any spyware remover to work?  You could try running it in safe mode.

Safemode.

Do you have any spyware remover on your machine? Otherwise, you could download it to another machine, then burn it onto a CD or thumbdrive to add to your comp.

Google has some spyware thing in the "tools" section.   It's cought stuff that Norton hasn't.  I now have Avast! which is free. But each program seems to catch different threats.
You should be more like Cantrip.
