If you've noticed, for those of you who work, your paycheck amount is affected by withholdings for taxes and other items like insurance premiums and union dues. That number is altered by the number of deductions you claim. For example, you get one deduction if you're single, another if you're married and even more if you have kids. So if you are looking at the salary for a new job, you can calculate how much you will actually be able to deposit into your bank account each pay period using this calculator: http://www.paycheckcity.com/NetPayCalc/netpaycalculator.aspIt's pretty accurate to a point.
