Ok i have a msi 650i sli mb with a 700 watt psu with 2 gigs of crucial ballistix tracer 2 gb set ddr2 800, and im running a intel 630 prescott 3 ghz ht cpu single core with 2mb cache, Also have a 3rd party fan with artic silver on the cpu. I have my computer over clocked from 3ghz to 4.1ghz stable, what im wondering is how far can i push the cpu and when would i need to go to water cooling. At 4.1ghz cpuz is reading the core voltage at 1.248v bus speed is 271.3 and rated fsb is 1085.1 with the multiplier at 15x. I run crysis at high settings and get 30-45 fps and load times are pretty short, I have crysis installed on my 2nd harddive that i install all my games on and it is a 36 gig raptor drive, Oh ya my video card is a evga 8800 gt with pci-x 2 with the newer 92g.

You never said anything about temps(on which everything is totally dependent). Let's see some screens of your voltages and temps please.
Anyhow why don't you dump the prescott and get a core-2?

You aren't going to get any real temp readings from any netburst chip which is unfortunate. TBH, 4.1 is about average for the late P4 chips, upgrading to water cooling isn't really going to get you noticeably farther and the money would be much better spent of a new CPU such as the E5200 or E7200. Also just out of curiosity, are your tracers single or double sided? Also, which version (bottom right corner) of CPU-Z are you using? until 1.46 (IIRC) it didn't read voltage correctly and still isn't always that close especially for higher volts. For example, last weekend I was running 2.03v DMM measured on an E8500 and CPU-Z 1.47 was giving me 1.4v

I never understood why people insist on overclocking the hell out of their CPUs when it's your GPU that will make the biggest difference in gaming. I bought a 8800GTX over a year ago and paired it with a AMD X2 4400+, and I could play Crysis on almost all settings at very high with 40-50 fps. Now I have an Intel E7200 and I only gained 5-10 fps.

When people say its just the cpu or just the gpu just goes to prove that they dont know what there are talking about. It takes both the cpu and gpu to run games at high setting. If your cpu cant keep up with your gpu then you wont get good fps being the cpu is a bottle neck on the system and vice versa. And the e7200 is a low-mid end cpu anways if i remeber right it has only a 3mb cashe  on it while mine has 2mb. i have the newer revised 8800gt with the  (92) gpu thing and the pci-e2 and its already overclocked.

And the temp im not sure on but it never got higher than 60 cel because i have it set to shut off if it goes over that. I think i have been running about 46-maybe50 cel on load and i have an antec nine hundred case and have all the fanes on high.

And why dont i buy a new cpu is because this can run anygame i throw at it, and mainly because i dont have the money to do so right now. But if would would like to buy me one and send it to me i would run that insted. i need to pay off me house a bit more before buying an more computer stuff.

As for me ram i think they might have chips on both sides im not sure that have ram heat sinks and the leds on top of the also if that helps.

I didn't say that only the GPU is going to boost your performance. I said the GPU makes a bigger difference.
It doesn't matter how much you overclock a Pentium 4; it's still a single-core processor and therefore is going to bottleneck regardless of how much you overclock. Modern games are built to take advantage of multiple cores. But once you enter the realm of dual core and quad core CPUs, the difference between a e2160 and a e6750 in gaming is negligible.

On top of that you're running a 8800GT, which is significantly less powerful than my 8800GTX, which is already two generations behind.

Cpu overclocking can really help certain games as well. Just depends what game. Many processes even in games are cpu dependent.
Overclocking a cpu with Crysis can yield excellent results. Also with todays intel cpu's we're talking about overclocks of up to 100%.
That can mean a lot to 3d apps.

Umm lets get some things straight. 8800 GTX was released in late 2006 8800 GT was released in late 07. Which is two generations behind now? Second, significantly less powerful? if significantly is 5-10%. Only at hight resolutions (1920x1200+) with AA and AF does the GTX do noticeably better with it's wider bus. http://www.anandtech.com...wdoc.aspx?i=3140&p=9

Deux didn't really answer your question, either.

Here's my answer again, just so we're clear:
Your processor is old. Overclocking it until it melts through your board will not solve your bottlenecking problem.

The p4 CPUs are pretty weak compared to the far more efficient core2duos.  A simple mobo/cpu upgrade would really take advantage of that good video card.  You have a lot of options based on cost and performance.  You could go all out and get a quad core Q9xxx cpu with a high-option mobo and easily spend over $500.  You could also get a low end c2d pentium (dual core 1MB cache) in the 1.6-2.4GHz range and overclock the piss out of it using a reasonably priced mobo and be done for $150-250.

Your 8800GT is pretty good.  The G92 core is powerful enough (with a capable CPU) to play almost all games except at the higher resolutions with AA and AF.

Save everything except the mobo/CPU and make a nice system.

I'll admit I didn't really answer the question and probably shouldn't have posted that. Also, didn't mean to come off as such an ass, guess I need to try harder next time lol.

To answer the original question, overclocking your cpu another 100-200 MHz isn't going to make a noticeable difference for the extra cost and work involved. Sounds like it is doing an ok job of playing your games now so I say leave it as it is.

Seriously. I have a 8800 GTS and an E6420 clocked at 2.13 GHZ, and it runs Sins, SupCom, and CoD4 perfectly. Of course I never tried running Crysis on it but that game sucks anyways so fuck it.
